About Mary

I recently tutored a woman in Algebra I who had recently returned to Pima College after raising her family. She had not taken a math course since high school. She received an A in the class.

I worked for 13 years as a high school math teacher and the worked as a systems analyst supporting financial computer systems.

In undergraduate school I majored in French with minors in Math and Chemistry. I then earned a MEd with a major in Secondary Education and minor in mathematics.

I finally earned a Masters Degree in Computer Science.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra is a first class in algebra that usually follows a pre-algebra class. It is important to understand the basic concepts of algebra before continuing to Algebra II.

Students will learn to solve equations and inequalities. They will become proficient in factoring and simplifying algebraic fractions.

Algebra 2

I have taught algebra 2 and I have helped students to understand it as a tutor

Geometry

I taught high school geometry for 12 years and I have tutored many geometry students. I am able to help a student to develop confidence in her/his ability to be successful in Geometry. I am very good a helping a student to understand how to organize proofs. I especially like to help young women to become successful math students.
