Bio

I am a certified K-8 teacher. I have over 10 years of teaching experience. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. I have been teaching 5th grade for 7 years.

I am very good at not only teaching reading but helping students find ways to enjoy it and become enthusiastic about it. I can even tutor you in Shakespeare! Every year, I have almost every one of my 5th graders come to LOVE Shakespeare and perform it! I run an after-school Shakespeare drama program.

As a fifth grade teacher, I teach American history, specializing in the history of the U.S. to 1865. In my classroom, I employ a variety of teaching methods to reach students of all ability and interest levels. I continually search the internet and other sources for interesting and instructive videos, learning games, mapping activities and learning about history through literature (another passion of mine!). I am proud to say that many of my students come in at the beginning of the year with a limited interest in social studies and leave loving it!

I also love teaching, reading, and talking about Spanish. I know all there is to know about Spanish grammar. I chose to learn Spanish starting in the 7th grade and continued throughout the university level. I have traveled to Spain three times, most recently in June 2010, where I lived in a lovely seaside village called Nerja with a charming Spanish family. I also studied Spanish in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I continue to educate myself by reading Spanish books. My favorite is the poetry of Pablo Neruda (so romantic!). I even love Spanish cooking! I promise to share a few recipes with you!I can tutor you throughout high school and university level Spanish.

I can help you develop organization skills that will help you succeed. All of these things are my passions in life, and I love teaching. I would love to help you not only succeed but learn to enjoy any of the above subjects and skill sets.

My schedule is open in the late afternoons, evenings, and weekends. I hope to hear from you!
