I am interested in tutoring because I believe there is greater potential in each student and my knowledge and experience can help students achieve their goals. I am a native from Mexico City, where I earned a Bachelor Degree. I also attended the University of Arizona for Graduate studies in Journalism, Theatre and Interpreter-Translation (English-Spanish). My background also includes Teaching different levels: middle school, college, and adults.
I have had the opportunity to work for more than 6 years with a diverse student community. My students have been culturally diverse teenagers and adults, Latin American immigrants whose English language experience is limited, Spanish speaking adults with little or no English fluency, teenagers who were born in The United States and had little or no Spanish fluency or immigrants from other non English speaking countries. I have learned and have enjoyed working with them and it is not only challenging but very rewarding to teach a diverse group of students.
The materials that I have developed for certain classes, especially the beginning level, had been very easy to understand for the student and encourage them to keep learning and taking more advance level classes. As an Instructor, I feel confident in the lesson plans I have developed as I have seen the positive results in the community. The classes that I have been teaching are always useful in the further development for education for adults. Some of the students who have taken my classes have gone to higher education at Pima Community College or the University of Arizona.
At the moment I hold a position as a Translator, and would love to share my experience with anyone interested in learning/improving their Spanish skills. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a Theater Specialist, I have collaborated with different theater companies locally and internationally. In Tucson, I have worked with Borderlands Theater as an Education and outreach specialist where I have had the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of students. The purpose of the outreach was to promote Theater Arts thru educational workshops at the different schools K-6. In the workshops, I was responsible for teaching the ins and outs of back-stage and front-of-house productions, coordinating audience talk backs, study guides among other activities. I have also had the opportunity to work as a Drama Instructor at Viva performing arts where I was responsible for the development of lesson plans for acting workshops being taught in English and Spanish for a diverse audience. My students were Spanish speaking adults with little or no English fluency and teenagers who were born in The United States and had little or no Spanish fluency.
I have earned a certification at the University of Southern Maine in M. Chekhov acting technique. I have participated in many theater playS nationally and internationally and independent films as well.
