Hola,

if you want to have a lot of fun with a multi-media approach to Spanish learning, look no more! Spanish is the main subject I tutor, because I especially love Spanish. My English writing and speaking skills are excellent also, since proofing, clear grammar, syntax, punctuation, and public speaking abilities are important in all languages.

I have taught college Spanish in Spanish-only at the U. of California in Santa Cruz (UCSC), and I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th grade bilingual classes. Currently, I have six very loyal adult WyzAnt clients who have been with me over a year. I tutor high school students through another national company, and I also have three private classes for groups of adults.

I've lived in Madrid, Southern Spain, and Mexico, and have traveled in Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Puerto Rico. I recently spent two weeks driving through all of Baja California, where I was focusing on geography, history, land use, irrigation, and water conservation practices, and agriculture. I spent two weeks in Ecuador last year, and helped with a history study trip to Sonora last Spring,
I April I spent two weeks driving throughout both Baja California Norte and Baja California Sur ( 2500 miles!) and got to play with and pat some grey whales!!) and I will be doing two another trip in September of 2016 - one more historical/cultural and architectural.

While living in the Salinas-Monterey area of California I worked seven years selling advertising to many Spanish-only clients for Radio Suprema, Inc., a company of three Spanish language commercial radio stations, and later for Comcast (then ATT Broadband). I was their token "gringa" of 24 Hispanic employees at the radio station! Many days I spoke only Spanish all day with our various client-business owners and with our various DJs. I know about a thousand top-40 songs from the last 30 years!

My teaching style is very adaptable to your needs. Inquiry Based Learning is a concept where you come with your questions and what you w

Having an M. A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies, and being more than fifty years old, I have had an outstanding education in English grammar and writing skills. I have more than four years' experience teaching English and bilingual Spanish/English to immigrant children in the California elementary school - 2nd grade level, 4th grade level, 5th grade level, and Kindergarten level. I am an English native speaker with no particular regional accent. Teaching Spanish now for most of my life, I have a keen awareness of how to work with both English and Latin-based language grammar, and how to compare the similarities and contrast the differences. I have many, many vocabulary and conversation activities that are appropriate for any language and age level. Among them are high quality flashcards of photos and pictures of people interacting in various situations -- a picnic in the park, working together in a mechanic's garage, attending a meeting, etc., stickers and flashcards.

I also teach classes and tutor with two other companies since 2004. Previously I taught college Spanish in Spanish-only at the U. of California in Santa Cruz (UCSC), and I am current with the U of Arizona and Pima and TUSD and Catalina Foothills HS textbooks and curriculum. And I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th grade migrant-ed classes in California and have a strong background in Mexican sociology and current issues. I travel regularly in Mexico and help lead group trips in Sonora, Chihuahua, Baja California S. and N. Aside from teaching I worked 7 years for a group of three large Spanish-language commercial radio stations in Salinas, CA, and I use a huge collection of popular music lyrics to illustrate vocabulary and grammar in action in the real world. ¡Órale, pues!

I have over 300 hours with WyzAnt tutoring Spanish and a five star rating and many testimonials. In college I was an anthropology minor. Also, a big part of my MA in Mexican Studies was Aztec and Mayan archaeology. I have studied upper division courses in both cultural anthropology and physical anthropology, and forensic anthropology - (similar to the bone fragment ID process as seen in the TV show Bones) and also archaeology of Mexico and of coastal Indians of California (Ohlone - Costanoan), and have a high personal interest in Latin-based languages and a personal love of philology and linguistics and phonetics. 99% of my tutoring clients with WyzAnt are with adults. Some of our language study involves etymology and linguistics and the history of Spanish and how it relates to Latin (especially medical terms and legal terms) and to other languages and how it has evolved through the centuries with its Arabic influences and American indigenous languages influences.

Explains things in a way that makes it easier for me to grasp

Learned tools to help with my reading comprehension. Allowed me to relate what I was reading to my own situations. Pleasure working with her. Look forward to our next tutor session.

Highly knowledgeable, engaging, and motivating teacher!

Right away I knew Cynthia was going to be an awesome teacher! Prior to our first scheduled session, she inquired about my current level in Spanish as well as what my goals were for our sessions together. By having this information beforehand, we were able to hit the ground running on our first session together. Cynthia also has a great sense of humor which helps one to feel comfortable while trying to speak another language. She is extremely knowledgeable not only about the mechanics of the language, but also about the Mexican culture which is as important as learning the language. Cynthia is a very motivating teacher and continues to encourage me to use my newly acquired language skills when possible. I truly look forward to more Spanish tutoring sessions with her!

Cynthia is an awesome teacher

We have had 5 lessons with Cynthia and she is patient and creative in helping us to speak and comprehend Spanish. She is willing to spend time on things we have difficulty with and never makes us feel rushed. She is a wonderful teacher.

Best Spanish Tutor I Have Ever Had!

Cynthia tutored me in Spanish 101 and 102 at The University of Arizona. she was very helpful and also made learning Spanish very fun! She has a great personality and will be sure to put a smile on your face while you are learning. My tutoring sessions with her were definitely one of the better parts of my day, and I learned so much. I passed my class and still remember a lot of the language months later! She has fantastic hand outs and flashcards that she will give or lend you that are extremely helpful. She also will send an email after a session going over everything that you discussed which is helpful for reviewing on your own time. I highly recommend her as a tutor!

Cynthia has a unique style of teaching. Her personality is fun and encouraging. I am looking forward to future sessions and being able to see my daughter excel in Spanish!

Excellent Tutor

I recommend Cynthia as a tutor; I'm taking classes with her for TOEFL ibt and I feel that I'm getting better with the speaking section, that was one of my weakness. Cynthia has a complete understanding what is necessary for TOEFL. She has been pushing me in order to get a higher score. She has a great knowledge about any topic and it fits perfect with TOEFL. When it comes to personality, she is very kind, patient and I'm sure you will laugh with some of her comments. In conclusion, I really recommend Cynthia, don't hesitate to choose Cynthia as your tutor.
