Hello! My name is Aja, but I prefer to be called "Gem." I enjoy tutoring students, especially in Math and English. I attended Vicksburg High School in Mississippi and graduated 11th out of 198 students. In high school, I was enrolled in AP/Honors courses. I was an active member of Boys and Girls Club, National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. I was awarded the President’s Award for being in the top ten and Gator Award for community service. I graduated from The University of Mississippi as a Luckyday Academic Excellence Scholar with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Math. I wrote poetry over the years, and during my freshman year of college, I had my poem, “Beautiful Eyes,” published in the Venture Online Volume 6 Freshman Writing Magazine. As a Luckyday Scholar, I was chosen to tutor my fellow scholarship students in College Algebra, Calculus 1-4, and General Chemistry. I am currently studying for my Master of Architecture degree at Arizona State University.
Throughout high school and college, I enjoyed Math and English. I loved helping students understand math problems that they struggled with, and I instilled in them a new love for mathematics. During my free time at school, I also enjoyed proofreading and editing papers for my classmates and helping them improve their work before stressful deadlines.
I attended Chamberlain Hunt Academy briefly for junior high and was assigned as an ACT English tutor for students in the Honors English I class. I was also allowed to tutor for the Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT-10) after receiving a 99 percentile on the English section. I took the ACT and the ACT COMPASS examinations and received a 99 percentile in English, 97 percentile in Math, and 99 percentile in Reading.
I excelled in Algebra and Geometry through high school as a member of Mu Alpha Theta, a math club at Vicksburg High School. I attended the Mu Alpha Theta conventions at Mississippi College every year and was certified to tutor the high school students for the Subject Area Testing Program (SATP) examinations in Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus and for the ACT Math section. Most of my time in high school was spent tutoring one on one in these subjects in a classroom after school. The students that I tutored were usually falling behind in their coursework and struggling in their exams, but before the semester ended they've achieved high scores on their material and excelled in their classes.
I like to look over material with the student and make sure the session is a fun learning experience. Based on the student's needs, I make practice questions to test them and help them remember and understand the material. I ensure that the student is able to memorize necessary equations so they can improve their general understanding of math and their grade. Through critiquing their papers and writing, I help them understand their grammatical errors and improve their writing quality. I would like to pass on the knowledge I have so my students can improve in their study materials.
I enjoy answering my students’ questions in areas they don't understand, and I try to make the work as simple as possible so they can remember it for their exams. In order to prepare students for their tests, I have practice tests for ACT exams and make practice tests for students to study from. I'm easy to contact and will give a fast response. Please feel free to contact me, so we can schedule a session at a time convenient for us!

Gem was super patient with me and was able to explain and break down problems in plain English! We had some technical difficulties in the beginning but she was able to come up with a solution quickly and continue with the lesson.Christie, 2 lessons with Aja
Knowledgeable and patient
She accommodates my son anytime he needs help. Great tutor who knows all the info about Geometry at her fingertips. My son hates math but with the help of this tutor, he's started getting excited. This tutor is extremely cheap when you compare with what she covers during a session. I used to pay another tutor twice as much but not much result noted.violet, 6 lessons with Aja
