My background in higher education is extensive, having completed a B.S. in Biological Anthropology and Anatomy from Duke University, a B.S. in Physics from Arizona State University, and now I am currently working to complete my Ph.D in Computational Biophysics at Arizona State.

For the past four years I have been acting as a teaching assistant for the Arizona State University Department of Physics. While I spend most of my time teaching students how to solve problems, I also make sure to reinforce habits that can be translated across any area of study including time management, efficiency, and pre-class preparation. During my time at Duke University, I was also playing football on full athletic scholarship, and I understand the tremendous effort and upkeep a degree in the sciences requires while supplemented with time-intensive life/work/extra-curricular activities.

However, I recognize that when tackling any subject, the most fundamental aspect is to always treat each student as an individual. Part of my tutoring process involves learning how the student thinks, and teaching them to be aware of their strengths, weaknesses, and what works for them in both understanding and actualizing short-term and long-term academic goals.

I truly believe a passion for mathematics or the sciences is something special, and I will always go out of my way to cultivate this passion. Many students get turned off from pursuing a career in the sciences as a result of introductory physics or mathematics courses, or an initial struggle at the high school level. In teaching, I strive for mastery of the material while never losing sight of the basic joy one can find in the subject itself.

Particularly over the summer, my hours are very flexible and will be willing to accommodate schedules outside of my listed hours on a case-by-case basis. I am happy to answer any further questions regarding my background or specifics pertaining to any student's tutoring needs.

UNIX

UNIX

I am currently finishing year 5 of my PhD in Computational Biophysics, where nearly all of my work has been conducted in a UNIX type environment. Particularly Ubuntu, and the Ubuntu / Linux subshell now available in Windows 10. Furthermore, I built and currently maintain a Centos-based high performance computing cluster (~1500 cores) at Arizona State University

Physics

I have a B.S. in Physics from Arizona State University and am entering my 3rd year of the Ph.D. program in Computational Biophysics at the same institution. I have over four years of physics teaching and tutoring experience, including calculus and non-calculus based introductory physics in Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Modern Physics. Additionally, I have taught two upper division physics courses at ASU in Statistical and Thermal Physics, and Advanced Laboratory.

Football

I have been exposed to the training, technique and strategy involved with American Football at a high level since age 13. In high school I was voted the best football player by the Pigskin Club all-metropolitan (DC/VA/MD) as well as student-athlete of the year out of all sports. Additionally, I played 5 years at Duke University in the ACC where the majority of my football related activities involved technical deconstruction of movement, foot/hand/arm placement and overall technique, particularly for positions on the offensive and defensive line.
