About Zoey

I am a certified Special/Elementary Education teacher in Arizona. I have been a Special Education teacher for three years, I graduated from Arizona State University with a dual certification. I have worked with special education students that range in age from 1st grade to 10th grade. I have worked with a wide range of students with Autism, from high functioning to highly behavioral/sensory needs. I have also worked with students that are verbal and nonverbal.

I am passionate about what I do but I am also patient. I am a creative, out of the box thinker that knows that each child with special needs is different and shouldn't be placed in a certain category. That being said differentiation is very important. I love to use art, crafts and manipulatives for learning. I enjoy using manipulatives and visuals for learning. I also enjoy integrating learning in everyday life. For example, if I have a student that is working on understanding money, when we are learning the concept, I will have the student go to a local store and use money to buy an item (of course given parental permission). I enjoying teaching but I also really enjoy learning.

Please contact me for any additional information. I am available for tutoring Monday-Friday, 4:30PM-7:00PM and anytime on Saturdays and Sundays.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have worked in special needs classrooms for three years. Students are always diagnosed differently. Being that I have worked in multiple settings, I have seen many different needs. One of those being ADD/ADHD. Depending on the student, there has to be differentiation in the way the student is taught. For example, if a student has trouble learning in a strict classroom setting, have the student learn on the playground where their needs are being met so that he/she can have enhanced learning. This is also generalizing different skills. Each student is different so depending on the needs of the student, the coursework will be assessed afterwards.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have been a special needs teacher for three years, with most of my student population being Autism. When I was 16 years old I worked as a one-on-one for a child with Autism. I have worked with students with Autism with ages ranging from 5-16. I have been trained on how to work with students with Autism for the past three years. I am also behavior management certified (CPI).

Special Needs

I have a valid Special Education teaching certification in Arizona. I am also a Respite/Habilitation provider in Arizona. I have been working with students with all different special needs since I was 16 years old. I have been teaching in self-contained classrooms for 3 years.
