I enjoy working one on one with students to help them suceed in Algebra. While I would have loved being a high school math teacher, I instead, graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering and later earned an MBA. I recently retired from my management position and now have time to pursue what I love, working with students. It is my experience that their confidence level is typically below their math ability. I work with them to not be afraid of math, improve their comprehension and learn organizational skills for their studying and homework that will translate into other classes as well. I want the students to set high standards for themselves but not be discouraged if they don't meet those levels. I want to instill a love for learning.
I am a patient person with a good sense of humor. I strive to explain things in multiple ways to aid comprehension but am ever mindful that their teacher is boss and defer to any classroom preferences.

Jayne is so quick to respond via the app, and eager to help my 13 yr old son with his Algebra 2. She's great with kids and so patient!
Jane coached me so well in math. Today I completed my accuplacer test after only 14 sessions with her. I started off not remembering how to add fractions to now kicking butt with quadratic equations and so many other technical methods in math !! Proud to say I passed my placements test today. And my goal with her was met. I now only have one math class left in college to complete. She helped me skip over so much math and helped me avoid more classes. Because of her I learned more in a few months than I have in a semester of just one math class. I owe her so much !! Thanks wyzant! Thanks Jayne !!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra is my passion. I started tutoring 30+ years ago. Recently, I spent the full school year working with several students on a weekly basis. I believe firmly there is more than one way to grasp a concept. If the first explanation doesn't resonate with the student, I will try another, typically a visual way to explain the concept. I also work to instill confidence. For some reason, many students are afraid of math and that fear gets in their way. Appropriate positive reinforcement will go a long way.
