My passion for the past 19 years has been helping students of all ages increase their phonics, reading, fluency and comprehension skills. I absolutely love that "light bulb" moment when the program I am using starts to click with my students and the brain starts to understand sounds and reading begins to occur. I am a reading and dyslexia specialist and former owner of a tutoring center.
I have attended hundreds of IEP, parent teacher conferences and school team meetings to help educate teachers and parents about reading difficulties. I am trained in the LindamoodBell reading program as well as Orton-Gillingham and have given numerous teacher in-service trainings to help our educators better instruct our students and understand students with reading difficulties. I really enjoy working with students of all ages and I am extremely flexible and understanding. It is such a hardship for students who have a reading difficulty but with my help and knowledge, I can help them bridge the gap between themselves and their peers and advance in reading. It is my mission to help all struggling readers!
I have been working with students of all ages for the past 19 years to help increase their phonics, reading and comprehension skills which has made me a superior instructor. As a previous Director and Owner of my own tutoring center I am skilled in all areas of reading and trained in the LindamoodBell reading program and Orton-Gillingham program. I am also a former Special Education teacher which has allowed me to think outside the box and adapt and individualize programs for students with much success.
Teaching phonics for the past 19 years using the LindamoodBell and Orton-Gillingham program has made me a superior phonics instructor. Not only have I taught phonics to children but also to teachers to help them in the classroom.
My knowledge and expertise in reading difficulties as well as dyslexia and understanding how the brain processes sounds is very extensive. I have helped hundreds of students advance their reading skills and become a top student. I am extremely flexible with my schedule and would love the opportunity to speak with you and schedule a session. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching the LindamoodBell and Orton-Gillingham intensive reading programs for the past 19 years and have become a dyslexia specialist. Both programs begin with intense phonics instruction which then carry through the program along with advancing the student in other areas of reading. I have trained teachers in phonics instruction to be private tutors themselves or work within the classroom. I have in-depth knowledge of how the lips and tongue are to be placed while learning sounds which makes me an excellent tutor/instructor. Finally, as a former Special Education teacher I am able to work with students with many different needs ranging from Down Syndrome to Autism.
