As a highly trained and compassionate tutor, I will provide a multi-sensory learning environment for your child that will ultimately give them the tools they need to succeed on their own. I have over 4 years experience as a professional literacy specialist and as a private tutor for students struggling with learning differences, including ADHD and Dyslexia. My services include monthly updates with the student's parents and an open communication line with the student's teachers to ensure that the child's literacy strategies are successful in and out of the classroom. Your child's education will be my priority as I work to encourage independence through positive reinforcement and Socratic questioning.

Sydney has been helping our child for many months now, and she knows how to get the best from him. Rewarding hard work and helping him to focus on his tasks. I highly recommend her.
I am so happy and blessed we found Sydney. She is very easy to talk to and returns calls/emails promptly. Sydney is patient, dependable and kind. My son is now doing so much better in only a month. Highest recommendation for Sydney.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked with students with ADHD in a literacy clinic as well as through private tutoring. I implemented many of the cutting edge ADHD techniques such as incorporating "Brain Breaks" (movement breaks) as needed, including kinesthetic feedback in all lessons, applying self-monitoring behavior charts to encourage self-reflection, and working with teachers to include kinesthetic objects in the classroom such as "fidgets", rummer-bands, or exercise balls to be used as seats.
Additionally, I've worked as an "Executive Functioning Coach" for students with ADHD to strengthen their study habits and greatly improve grades.
I have worked with students with autism for 5+ years. First, I volunteered for 3 summers with the "Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center" as a peer in social learning groups. Then, I worked as a volunteer with the Autism Social Network in San Francisco. Finally, I worked as a one-to-one tutor and program designer at the Literacy and Language Center in San Francisco in which we took students with various learning differences including autism (both verbal and nonverbal). I worked with students with Autism to strengthen reading comprehension, spelling skills, and adjust behavioral responses to schoolwork.
I worked as a tutor, consultant, and teacher at the "Literacy & Language Center" in San Francisco from September 2013 - June 2015. I was trained to work in Lindamood-Bell's Seeing Stars, LiPS, and Visualizing and Verbalizing programs. These programs were designed to work with students of all learning styles including Dyslexia. I have worked with over 30 students struggling with Dyslexia.
I have worked as a reading specialist in a Literacy clinic for over 3 years using the Lindamood-Bell LiPS, Seeing Stars, and Visualizing and Verbalizing Programs.
For the past 2 years I have worked as a dedicated private tutor for students struggling with Executive Functioning Skills (planning, organization, attention to detail, ability to recall directions, and other necessary studying abilities). Together, the student and I simultaneously worked to strengthen study skills, build independence, and tackle particular subject areas. We worked to organize planners, strengthen time management, and break complex assignments into smaller, more achievable goals.
