Hello, my name is Garvin. I am a graduate of ASU college with a degree in Social Anthropology. I was raised by deaf parents and I took classes in ASL (American Sign Language) to improve my skills and grammar. I've also studied history very intently, taking World History, Asian History, Western History and American History college courses. All of these studies required a lot of reading and writing, so as you can imagine I've got a good amount of practice. I am eager to share what I've learned and to help students achieve success in their own studies. Hello, my name is Garvin. I am a graduate of ASU college with a degree in Social Anthropology. I have a 6 year old autistic boy. He is non-verbal so we decided to get him started in ASL. I found Garvin on WyzAnt and he's been a blessing. First of all he is very responsible and honest. At first I had some doubts because he did not have any experience with kids, but its been great; my boy and his brother love him. He is very fluent in ASL. I interviewed some other tutors from WyzAnt and most of them knew some words, but Garvin possess a true ASL fluency due to the fact he was raised by deaf parents. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a ASL tutor in the valley.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have graduated with a Bachelors degree in Social Anthropology from Arizona State University. I continue to study the subject in the hopes of being accepted into a Master's program on the same. The study of human beings and their culture is an endlessly fascinating one and I hope to share it.
I took a wide variety of political science courses while attending ASU and MCC (due to cost concerns I attended MCC for a number of classes). I was mostly interested in it from an Athropological viewpoint but was drawn in fairly rapidly.
I am a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults. I also took classes on ASL mostly through the Rio Salado Community College program. I finished ASL 202 in the spring of this year.
