About Debbie

The past 14 years I worked for a large international power utility on the east coast. Many days were spent remoting onto employee computers and showing them visually how to perform tasks in MS office; emphasis in Access & Excel. I was also the publisher of our IT newsletter with Office Tips & Tricks. During 2002, I received a certification from Syracuse University in Database Design & Creation.

I am self-taught in the full suite of Office products; Word, Power Point, Access, Excel and Outlook. While working as the Team Lead for the IT support desk at the utility, many how-to and self-help documents were created and shared with our 17k employee population to help them perform tasks themselves without having to call the center and wait for someone to assist.

I am a firm believer in the saying that, "If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. If you teach him to fish, he will eat for life."

Based on my years of working with a diverse and large employee population in the US and the UK, I believe that I have the ability to teach individuals how to perform various tasks in the MS Office suite of applications. Tasks that can help them to make their work easier and also show them how to continue to learn and grow in their knowledge by using some very simple self-help tools.

Please contact me if you are interested in improving your knowledge of the MS Office Suite of applications. I believe that my years of teaching myself, sharing information with others and creating self help documents for the most commonly asked tasks can be helpful to you in your goal to improve your skills. Whether it's one question on how to do something or an entire segment on one of the MS Office applications, I am happy to help you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Access

In 1998, I was the database admin for an Access DB used by a NY utility for their Y2K project. All company IT related assets were logged, tracked, and compliance testing documentation was stored in this DB.

I have used MS Access for my roles as IT Support Analyst through Account Delivery Manager while working at Hewlett-Packard.

From 2002-2011, I was the IS Support Analyst for a large international utility; US & UK, supporting and working with internal employees to share MS Access skills. Also responsible for generating daily, weekly & monthly stats of all calls to the US Support Center using MS Access.

Microsoft Excel

16+ years using Excel
12+ years assisting internal employees and family/friends with Excel
Knowledge of functions and pivot tables
Chart building support

Microsoft Outlook

I worked as an IS Support Analyst helping 10k+ employees with Outlook and other MS office apps for 14 years. The last 7 of those years, included an additional 7k employees in the United Kingdom. I have used Outlook 2003, 2010 and 2013 and have experience with each one. Company executives were given 1 on 1 remote/online support, employees were given online and remote support as well. Also, numerous how-to training documents were created for common questions. I also was the author/editor of the company office tips & tricks newsletter that went out to staff for approx. 1 year.

Microsoft Windows

I was employed as a level II IS Support Analyst for 16 years until I retried in 2016. In that position, I worked in support of an international utility company based out of the UK. Their OS on the computers ranged from NT, to XP, to Windows 7, to Windows 10. I had to be knowledgeable in all aspects of the OS and provide remote support for anything other than a hardware break. Currently, my personal device has windows 10 which I use daily with out issues. I also help family and friends with a variety of OS related issues.

Microsoft Word

16+ years using MS Word and Outlook supporting an international utility with approximately 17k employees and contractors.
