There are two distinct aspects to art when it comes to conveying it's various elements and concepts in a tutoring session. There is the technical as it applies to design, color theory, perspective, etc. and there is the aesthetic, intuitive and expressive aspect. My personal tutoring style is to develop a specific program of sessions that intertwines, that allows congruence and continuity between these two aspects in the course of satisfying the goals of the student.
My background and training is art education with three post high school degrees involving the expressive arts. I have practical experience as an art teacher in the public school system. In this era of electronics and proliferation of visual images I believe people art losing the ability and pleasure of self expression. The act of translating feelings, emotions and personal perceptions of the "real" world around us into expressions of line texture and color results in an outstanding image of our inside world brought outside.
I look forward to sharing my appreciation and knowledge of the expressive visual arts in a tutoring capacity in efforts to achieve your goal(s). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am in my mid-sixties. I still enjoy the making of art. I still enjoy the creative high received while creating an expressive image.
My love for art began while in high school. For me the natural progression was to earn the necessary degrees enabling me to be able to teach art. I have earned 3 degrees post high school; they are as follows:
A. Bachelor of Science Degree Art Education
B. Masters Degree Art Education
C. Masters Degree Art Therapy
All graduate studies were completed at Pennsylvania universities with the exception of the art therapy degree which was earned here in Arizona.
The above degrees required the completion of a wide range of university level courses in order to be an art instructor for grades K-12. Upon completion of the studies I taught art in the Pennsylvania public school system.
I feel qualified to teach and share the art experience with children as well as adults. My training covered all elements of the creative process such as drawing and painting. My training also included courses in childhood development.
The art therapy has been a normal passage as it provides greater opportunities for individuals to obtain deeper personalized glimpses of their true feelings and attitudes.
Whatever your specific art related needs or goals are, I can provide a positive experience in your efforts to obtain them.

I have worked with a variety of paint mediums from tempera paint to oils. My personal favorite is acrylics. After conversation with you the student I'll know better what your expectations are regarding painting in a tutoring situation.
Thank you for your interest.
