Hello, my name is Elaine. Since I was four years old, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. When I was in grade school, I was always the "teacher's helper", trying to help others understand better, gently correcting them, and always encouraging them. Later, in middle school I helped other language students when I was first learning Russian and French. I often "exchanged" tutoring sessions. For example, after helping two Japanese sisters with learning Russian, they would devote equal time to teaching me some simple Japanese phrases. Letting them help me empowered them in their own learning. When they produced their first sentences and responded to mine--I just "beamed" from pride at their success.
In high school, I graduated two years early and went on to university for the next five years, where I excelled in languages and decided to teach Russian and French. I earned my teaching certificate and Master's Degree at the age of 21! The rest is history, for I have been teaching others in public school and one-on-one while private tutoring now for 33 years! How time flies when you are doing what you enjoy most. I have taught my own classes of mostly high school students, college students, and middle school language learners. For the last fifteen years, I have been teaching English to Foreign Speakers--both in classes and in private tutoring sessions. And yes, I still beam when my students succeed.
Whether you are struggling with English or simply wish to enrich what you have already learned--consider taking private lessons with an expert who is patient, kind, funny, resourceful and is still learning every day. I will work with you--no matter where you are in English learning, and we you will soon be amazed at how much you really know! Hello, my name is Elaine. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my teaching career, I have taught Russian language and culture at the high school level for 15 consecutive years.
I have held a Master's Degree in Russian from University of California, Los Angeles, since I was 21 years of age.
I have been rated for a Fulbright Teaching Exchange to the former USSR by Prof Emeritus Louis Pedrotti of University of California, Riverside, as possessing "high-near-native" fluency in Russian.
