About Ryan

I am a lifelong learner and have always enjoyed working with others in order to learn more by working together. It is from this two way relationship that my love of teaching comes from. My love of learning comes from an ever observant eye and an always curious mind that always asking why and how?

I have always believed in the value of teaching and learning no matter where you are in your career. In addition to my professional experience, I have worked with the Architectural Intern Development Committee sponsored by the American Institute of Architects in which I helped to develop ARE Test Preparatory Videocast lectures to help people get through architectural registration exams. Furthermore, I have also been a member of the Educational Outreach Committee in which we have gone out and provided learning and mentorship to approximately 450 students in 3rd-6th grade throughout Phoenix.

My strength is in balancing the relationship between technical and artistic forces and my expertise is in using this strength to solve difficult problems or in developing unique design solutions. Balancing these two forces help to understand or create a greater whole by better understanding the disparate parts.

Starting in elementary school I was placed in accelerated math programs and have excelled. Classes I have taken include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, Pre-calculus in high school and Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Multi-Variable Calculus in college.

My design accomplishments include the AIA Henry Adams Medal and Certificate which is awarded to the top-ranking graduate student for my work at Arizona State University. I am also the recipient of a Design Excellence Award as well as three Design Excellence Award Nominations.

Nearly every day of my working career I use the Adobe Suite of products (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) to create renderings for new architectural designs in photoshop, create vector diagrams in Illustrator, or compile various kinds of content into a presentation book in InDesign. My strength is in pushing all three products to their limits and coordinating between them to create the best final product.

I am most available for tutoring in the evenings with anytime after 6pm MST works best. I am willing to travel to meet with students or we can work together online at your convenience.

I look forward to hearing from you and I can not wait to begin working with you and learning more together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have used InDesign throughout my educational and professional career. In school I used it to prepare our presentation boards to exhibit our architectural designs. In my professional career I regularly use InDesign to create presentation books for clients including my current project which is a 120 page master plan book for a major hospital campus.

Architecture

I have a B.S. in Architecture, a Master's in Architecture, and am a licensed Arizona Architect. I was awarded the AIA Henry Adams Medal and Certificate for being the top ranking and performing student graduating that year.

Revit

I have been working with Revit since about 2009 and have used it throughout my education and career. I have used Revit on projects as small as interior remodels all the way up to high rise hospitals. My strength is in leveraging the tools of Revit to achieve the most efficient and technically correct outcome you are looking for.

Sketchup

As an architect I regularly use Sketchup to quickly develop various design options for our buildings. I have been using Sketchup since at least 2005. I have taught company lunch and learns on best practices and how to use Sketchup efficiently.
