Scottsdale Community College (Philosophy)
Currently I am a Philosophy major and alumni of Scottsdale Community college, where I focused on Criminal Justice and Philosophy. Although they were my primary focus, I also took a variety of classes that I excelled in, from College Algebra to Marine Biology. Throughout my career as a student, I found that my classmates would often seek my help outside of classes, which sparked in me an interest in tutoring and aiding my fellow students. I was particularly passionate about editing and proofreading, which I found myself doing frequently due to the prevalence of essay writing in the majority of classes.
As a Philosophy major I have focused primarily on philosophy of religion, although I have done a significant amount of reading on my own time in several disciplines, such as political philosophies and discussions on morality and ethics. I know that in Philosophy especially, there is always more to read and learn from as well as ideas to compare and improve upon. I enjoy learning about all world views and always welcome open, thought provoking discussion.
In almost every class that involved essay writing, my work was praised by my professors for my eloquence and strong, effective use of grammar. This led to my often being asked to proofread and edit the papers of my peers, for whom I was frequently able to dramatically improve the quality of their writing. I especially found joy in being able to metaphorically tear apart an essay in order to rebuild it into a paper that would impress. Nothing would compare to being able to see their faces light up in comprehension when I helped them build a paper that would improve their grade.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
