I will be going into my Sophomore year at ASU Barrett, the Honors College. My current major is Computer Science, and I made Dean's list (3.5 GPA or higher) in my Fall semester.

Last semester, I took Calculus III, a class that I found to be both challenging and interesting. I went to Brophy College Preparatory for high school, and

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I completed Algebra 1 over 5 years ago and received an A in the class. Since then, I have tutored various students in the subject. I focus strongly upon factoring, as a firm understanding of this concept will prove very advantageous for students in future mathematics courses.

I took Algebra 2 my Sophomore year in high school, and received an A both semesters. It is still the most enjoyable math class that I have taken, and I have the most experience tutoring in it. Just like in Algebra 1, I focus strongly upon factoring, as a large amount of concepts within this class will require students to factor polynomials using various methods.

I never specifically took a class with this title, however am more than capable of breaking down these types of concepts so that students of all ages can understand. I use a step-by-step method when tackling new problem types, making sure that the student fully understands the process of one step before moving onto the next. If I still feel as though the student is struggling with a concept, I will have him/her repeat similar problem types until he/she feels comfortable.

I took Prealgebra over 6 years ago, and received an A in the class. Although I have only sparsely tutored in this particular subject, I am more than aware of some of the rigorous concepts students taking this class may face. I plan on tackling them using a step-by-step method, repeating similar problem types over and over until the student feels comfortable with them. I would especially focus upon equation solving with variables, as this concept can prove to be both intimidating and difficult for new students.

I took Honors Precalculus at Brophy College Preparatory in my Junior year and received an A both semesters. I have tutored several students within this subject over the past few years, and have improved each of them by at least a letter grade from where they initially started. With Precalculus, I have found that new graphing concepts have proven to be very difficult for students. Specifically, the equations for graphs of circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas are often challenging and tedious, as the equations for each of these individual figures often look very similar. Repetition of these problems types, as well as approaching each of them with a step-by-step method, is how I attack these sorts of problems. As well as this, I do not shy away from reviewing concepts from previous math classes if I find that they are hindering a student's ability to understand a current concept. The most common problems with this that I see in Precalculus students are polynomial factoring issues and rudimentary graphing issues. All math builds on itself, and concepts like these must be well understood by a student if he/she intends on improving their understanding of future concepts.
