About Alison

I received my Bachelors of Arts from the University of Texas in Austin majoring in Early Childhood Education through 6th Grade with Bilingual Education in 2013. I obtained my Texas Educator certificate as a Generalist Classroom Teacher Grades EC-6 in October of 2013. I am currently a first year graduate student at Arizona State University working toward my Masters of Science in Speech and Language Pathology. I am expected to graduate in August of 2017.

I have always performed well in the subject of English myself. I enjoy reading and writing and would love to impart my love of language onto young students that may struggle in this area. As a certified teacher and as a Future Speech/Language Pathologist aspects of grammar, writing, and reading are well within my areas of qualification.

I have held my Texas Educator Certificate as a Generalist Classroom Teacher for Early Childhood through 6th grade since October of 2013. During my undergraduate career at the University of Texas, I had internships in 1st and 3rd grade Spanish-English bilingual classrooms. I student taught for one semester in a 4th grade bilingual classroom and was responsible for behavior management, planning and implementing all lessons during that time. After graduation, I taught as an Assistant Teacher at Capitol School of Austin in a first grade classroom for children with speech, language and learning delays. I currently have an internship at Lowell Elementary in the Mesa School District providing group therapy sessions for students who have speech and language delays/disorders. I have experience teaching across subjects.

I encourage you to contact me to find out when I am available to serve you or your child. I look forward to speaking with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin's College of Education Teacher Preparation Program in May of 2013 where I learned to teach content areas to elementary aged children by designing and implementing lessons in classrooms through internship experiences and student teaching positions. I hold a Texas Educator certificate as a Generalist Classroom Teacher Grades EC-6 since October of 2013. I also was an Assistant Teacher at Capitol school of Austin in a first grade classroom for students with Speech, Language and Learning Delays during the 2014-2015 school year helping the Classroom teacher implement core content across subjects.

Handwriting

I hold a Texas Educator certificate as a Generalist Classroom Teacher Grades EC-6 since October of 2013. I also was an Assistant Teacher at Capitol school of Austin in a first grade classroom for students with Speech, Language and Learning Delays. Many of the students struggled with fine-motor skills and handwriting. I have experience administering the Handwriting Without Tears program.
