I just graduated college with a degree in education so I have experience student teaching and working one-on-one with students. Although this is my first time tutoring, I am confident in my abilities to teach and help students succeed! I look forward to helping more students reach their potential.
I have experience teaching basic elementary math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions). I am able to break down difficult concepts as well as allow students to see various ways to solve a problem. Thinking out loud is really important when teaching math because the learner must be able to hear the thought process that occurs when solving math problems. I have substituted high school algebra classes and am confident in tutoring those subjects as well.
English is about having an idea and knowing how to write about it in a way that grabs a readers attention and is easy to read. I am familiar with the 6+1 Traits rubric and use it whenever possible. If students have a good set outline of what issues they need to cover in a paper, the rest is just fill in the blank. Not many students know this and I hope to show them that they can be good writers if they put their mind to it.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
