Carleton College (B.A. Studio Art)
Hello! I graduated from a liberal arts college -- which basically means I was able to take plenty of courses outside my major. My degree is in studio art, but I developed a keen interest for both English and math. In college, I worked as a reading tutor for a second grade classroom, an ESL conversational tutor for adults, and a lab assistant for the photography and metals departments. Since then, I have worked as a math tutor (specializing in test preparation) in elementary schools and high schools across the valley. I have also provided homework help for middle school students in an after school program. My art background allows me to find new ways to teach subject material for the creative minded student, while my gravity toward math helps me outline English grammar in simple formulas for the analytical student.
I absolutely love tutoring! After traveling around Europe, Asia, and Africa and seeing how students within different cultures embrace their education, I've become very interested in spreading some of the same enthusiasm among students in Arizona. Seeing students reach their "aha" moments is simply one of the most rewarding feelings!
My math background helps me outline English grammar and reading strategies in simple straightforward ways, while my art background helps me find new creative approaches for teaching troublesome concepts.
Art is an inescapable means of expression. Every line and every color resonates powerfully with our life experiences. Sometimes, we just need a little direction to reach our full potential. I have experience in photography, oil and acrylic painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and metalsmithing.
Whether you need a creative or analytical approach to learning, I can help! Don't hesitate to contact me for more information or to schedule lessons. Your education is in your hands. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
