Columbia University (Psychology)
My name is Marvellous. I am originally from Nigeria, but relocated to Austin, TX with my parents when I was nine years old. I recently graduated from Columbia University in 2014 (the 6th best college in the world) with high honors and top 10% of my graduating class. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. During my time at Columbia, I was also a track and field athlete. I graduated with eight conference championships, and a school and Ivy League Conference Record in the 100 m dash.
As a Psychology major, and also as an athlete, I've had varied experiences with tutoring and teaching others. For example, after my freshman year in college, I spent three months in East Palo Alto, California teaching a class of 1st and 2nd grade students. When I was in school, I also spent a lot of hours volunteering with Level the Field, a program where I mentored and tutored middle school students for the school-year. Even on the track, I've had experiences tutoring younger athletes and teaching them about the sport and proper running techniques under the supervision of my personal coach.
I am currently in Phoenix, Arizona training as a full-time track athlete, and while I do so, I would like to tutor on the side to help you if you need it. I am a people-person and very passionate about helping others, especially when it comes to learning. I am an enthusiastic, optimistic, and kind person. I love to utilize innovative techniques when I'm tutoring, and promise that you will learn and also have fun! I look forward to working with you, and helping you to learn a new skill, or master an old skill.
Algebra is one of my favorite math subjects, alongside with Statistics. I actually took Algebra 1 in 7th grade and did very well!
I majored in Psychology at Columbia University. I was in the Honors Psychology program, and completed a Senior Thesis on an independent research topic. I have extensive knowledge about Psychology, and graduated with a 3.92 cumulative GPA.
I have exceptional reading and writing skills. My SAT Reading and Writing scores were very high, and above average. I also have published several articles, and enjoy reading and writing.
I love kids! Having an extensive knowledge of Psychology, including Developmental Psychology, and Child Psychology has helped me to understand how children learn, and that children learn differently. I also have experience as a teacher for 1st and 2nd grade students. I frequently help children in elementary school, and have great references to support my knowledge of elementary school material. I look forward to working with you! Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
