About Andrea

American Sign Language is the only visual communication method that is recognized formally as a language. It has a unique grammar, and a full history and culture.

I have tutored ASL 101 (first semester) through ASL 202 (4th semester) at the college level. I have also taught beginning ASL to middle school students.

I am happy to help with homework or provide conversational practice, and I am available Saturday afternoons.

I am looking forward to signing with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with children diagnosed with ADHD and I have found them to be both the more challenging and more rewarding of my students. Easily bored, easily distracted, and generally highly intelligent, students diagnosed with ADHD most often need the personal attention of a tutor who can remind them to pay attention, as well as tempering lengthy studies with more interesting or more stimulating lessons, something a teacher with an entire class to keep track of does not have the time for.

Sign Language

I have taken over six years of American Sign Language, as well as taught the basic foundation of the language several times. I have been a translator for family friends as well.

Study Skills

My Master's Degree is in Educational Psychology. Knowing how your mind processes information, and how YOU learn, specifically, will help you study for any exam. I will also teach motivation and self-regulatory techniques, which allow for structured studying, as well as overall organization of life tasks.
