About Michael

Reading, writing, and math skills are essential to obtaining an education and ultimately to a successful life. I have tutored children at most elementary and middle school levels, high school students, university students and adults. Much of my tutoring has been for ESL students.

I have had many years preparing students for the SAT, GRE, GED, ACT and various military service tests. While the ultimate results of tutoring lie with the student, I have been successful in helping to raise test scores significantly.

In addition, I have tutored students in pre-school, elementary school, high school and college who want additional help in English, reading, math, and science.

I have worked in the after school programs for No Child Left Behind at various public schools and have been successful in augmenting children's understanding of math and the language arts. As part of the after school program, I have had an extensive background check and was issued an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One clearance card.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I have played chess all my life and have been on several chess teams during the years and have played in tournaments. I continue to play regularly and have acquired a great deal of experience playing chess. I have taught chess privately and continue to do so.

Great Tutor / Great Results — I just wanted to update you on our son's successful results on the SAT test he recently took. With just the few lessons (4x) you had with him, he was able to raise his SAT score 150 points from his previous score! That's right - 4 lessons! After taking the SAT he came home and stated that he thought it went really well, so we've been waiting for 2 weeks or so for the results. Obviously, meeti ...
