I am a graduate of The University of Akron. I have a Bachelor's degree in both Mathematics in Secondary Education and Applied Mathematics. My tutoring skills, however, are not limited to only math. Below is list of various ages, subjects and tutoring situations I've experienced.
I have been tutoring students of various levels, ages and subjects since 2009. In addition to my teaching background, I’ve accumulated well over 5,000 hours of one on one experience. I truly enjoy the individualized time I get to spend with each of them. Based upon the age and subject of a student, I like to try new methods to keep him or her interested and engaged. Regardless of age, I believe that building confidence and good study habits are a crucial part of growth. Below is a more detailed breakdown of my experience within each level.
Pre-K: My youngest student was only 4 years old! We worked 2 times weekly throughout the summer to prepare her to begin kindergarten earlier than most. I created reading and math activities based on the Common Core Standards. I was thrilled to learn that as the school year went on, she progressed far above average in both reading and math!
K-6: My elementary students certainly keep me on my toes and force me to try new, exciting strategies to hold their attention! I'm confident in my abilities to tutor Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies within K-6 levels.
7-12 and College: The majority of my work has been with Pre-Algebra, Algebra I or II, Geometry and Calculus students. Each situation varies based on the time of year and unique needs of each student. Some have dug a deep hole, with only a short time to climb out. For others, these classes were their strength, but still desired an additional challenge. Whatever the goal of the parent, student and teacher, we can work together to attain it!
Test Prep: My fluency in math allows me the ability to prepare students for the math portion of the ACT, SAT, GED, GRE and other standardized tests. I have study materials and practice tests for the ACT and SAT, which I provide students with at no additional charge.
Although I do not have a degree in special education, I have had wonderful opportunities working with students with ADD/ADHD, emotional or anxiety disorders, hearing and speech troubles, and Asperger’s. I am confident in my ability and am delighted to work with students with mild cases of unique needs.
January-May tends to be the most common time that parents look for tutors for their students. At this time of the school year, some students have dug themselves a hole that they are in dire need of getting out of before the school year is over. This makes both the student and I's job all the more difficult. When parents get tutors around this time, we are then playing a game of "catch up." I find that my students work best when we consistently meet, even at the beginning of the school year when they may not "need" a tutor as much. Regularly meeting throughout the entire school year allows me to be very aware of the material the student is expected to know. It also helps prevent the student from digging the hole in the first place!
I recommend summer tutoring for some students and am happy to offer discounted rates. In the past, students whom I tutored over the summer seem find that the school year goes much more smoothly. Summer tutoring gives us the time to focus on previously missed concepts in addition to getting a head start on new ones. We're able to fill "holes" in the foundation of the students knowledge. The building of new knowledge comes easier when previous skills have been mastered.
I have an up to date background check and resume available upon request with a complete list of references!

Bethany = Confidence and Positive Results!
My daughter's confidence in math has soared since she has been working with Bethany! She is asked by friends at school how to work a problem because Bethany has her working ahead. I am thankful for her kind, gentle yet nature which is why my daughter connected so well with her. It's a blessing to now hear my daughter say she feels "smart"!Carol, 28 lessons with Bethany
Abby did a great job with making Najah feel comfortable with the concepts that she missed on the Test. She keeps the lessons simple and easy to follow. During the coarse of these lessons, Najah has become much more confident with the accelerated content in her class.Shadi, 6 lessons with Bethany
My son's confidence is continuing to improve in Geometry which is our overall goal with an objective of improved test score. He also looks forward to the sessions which to me means he feels that the sessions are helpful.Mike Jones, 25 lessons with Bethany

Exactly what I was looking for!
Bethany seems to be a perfect match for our son. Our son not only has ADHD but is gifted too. This can be a tricky combination to tutor. She was able to keep him focused on the problems given while engaging his mind. She was able to go over more material in an hour than we could ever cover. Thanks!Rebecca, 7 lessons with Bethany
Extremely knowledgeable and wonderful with children
Bethany tutored my seven year old son for six months. She was wonderful with him and finds many innovative ways to keep children of his age interested. He always enjoyed the lessons and looked forward to going. She was also extremely knowledgeable about requirements for every grade level and about ways to ensure your child is at the appropriate level. We highly recommend her!Janet, 29 lessons with Bethany
WOW! Great tutor
Unfortunately, we considered a tutor for my daughter's advanced algebra halfway through the year. Suffering from testing anxiety, she did well on her assignments, but struggled on tests. So, when searching for a tutor, we set out to find the best available ... and we did! Bethany has given our daughter the knowledge, understanding, and confidence to excel on her exams. I will gladly recommend Bethany D.Jim, 28 lessons with Bethany
