About Adolfo

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, and a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. I have tutored elementary students for ten years. I have assisted college students with their written assignments. I have seen how the students I tutored have made improvement in their knowledge of the given material.

My main areas of expertise are Grammar, Reading, Spanish, Proofreading, SAT Reading Prep, and ACT Reading Prep. It is important to break down instruction to smaller and simpler steps in order for the student to grasp the concept. I am always asking the student how he or she can apply the learned material in the real world. As a plus, I am bilingual. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.

Since, I have a counseling background, I believe in creating a solid relationship with my students. I will only work with students that feel comfortable with my teaching style. I can find out in the first time I meet with the student if I will be able to work with the student. I will not bill for a lesson or activity in which the student or the parent is not completely satisfied.

I feel I am flexible with the time knowing unforeseeable emergencies occur. I offer make-up classes when needed. I am willing to meet with student for tutoring services in the library, privacy of his or her home, or another available setting.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been a Bible School teacher for 15 years. I have also taught 10 years of home group Bible studies. I have trained new teachers that want to open their home to teach the Bible for several years. I am a well-rounded avid student of the Bible for I like to look at different commentaries, history, and other tools to understand better what I am reading. I make an attempted to make learning as interesting as possible because I am passionate about the Bible.

Career Development

I have worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for four years assisting clients with career and vocational goals. I have provided assistance to students that want to get a degree in college. I have provided tools to students so they can better create a plan so they can reach shorter and intermediate goals before graduating. I have worked with students with cognitive, physical, and psycho-social issues wanting to go to college.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as an elementary school teacher for seven years. I worked in third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. As a teacher, I tutored students in groups and on a one on one basis that needed extra help. I assisted students with reading, writing, and math problems. I have worked with students that are just beginning to learn the English Language.

Public Speaking

I have taken two semesters of public speaking in college. During the time I spent in college, I spoke in public several times in order to fulfill the requirements needed for graduation. Also, I have done more than ten years of public speaking in a church. I assist the main pastor in organizing activities and providing training to members of the church. I also teach new bible teachers relaxation techniques to speak effectively in front of a crowd.

Study Skills

I have passed several State Exams that demonstrates that I have study skills. As a teacher, I taught students different ways to retain information and prepare for exams. I have used these techniques throughout my own educational journey and they have been useful for my own success.
1) I have passed the exam to be a certified elementary school teacher in my first try.
2) I have passed the CRC exam in my first try.
Based on the information provided, I have the capacity to teach students techniques to prepare and succeed in a given exam.

Table Tennis

I have been playing table tennis for more than 35 years. I understand the fundamentals and how to teach others the game. I have participated in amateur tournaments. Besides teaching skills to learn the game, I also incorporate character lessons as I teach about table tennis. Table Tennis is a good way to involve the family in a recreational sport without involving technology.
