Prescott College, AZ (Creative Writing)
My name is Jasmine Pruitt and I am currently a junior at Prescott college. I study creative writing and ever since I was little, I have always been writing and reading. My mother home-schooled me from kindergarten to 3rd grade. I know what it means to receive tutoring at home and most importantly, I know what it means to be effective in teaching young people. I have always had a strong love for education and my academic record proves that. I am a very patient and reliable person and strive to put as much effort as I can into any task. I have tutored family members and close friends on several occasions. I love to help people in anyway I can.
One of my goals when teaching English, whether that be reading, writing or grammar, is to leave the student feeling more confident in their own abilities. I believe that we have everything we need inside our minds, but sometimes we doubt ourselves when all we need is a little reminding. I want to share my love of reading with students because I believe that to read a book is to gain knowledge and understanding of the world around you.
I think what makes me qualified to teach English is that I am still learning it myself. I can't say that I am the best because no one is better than anyone else, they only have more experience. I am still gaining experience and as I am learning, I can teach others what I am learning and we can create a community of supporters. I have taken many courses in English nonetheless. I'm in my third year of college and so I know how to write analytic essays, read critically, ask questions, write complete sentences and be confident in my writing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While in high school and now in my third year of college, I have used Microsoft Publisher during the time I was working on the school newspaper. I used it to write lead stories, publish pictures and distribute. I feel confident in my abilities to work my way around any Microsoft application.
