Dear Potential Student,
I'm so excited you found me! As I see it, there is nothing more exciting than sharing knowledge with others and helping build relevant connections between various subjects. The job of a teacher is not to be taken lightly. It is a humbling, awe-inspiring experience to work in the one profession that creates all other professions.
When I work with someone, I like to begin by reviewing the big ideas behind what I'm about to teach, so that overarching concepts are understood. This way, elaborating on specific concepts and ideas becomes easy and even logical, once the student is oriented to the entirety of a topic. Initially breaking topics down into larger ideas simplifies the learning process, and simultaneously helps to clarify the teaching process. As Albert Einstein best said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Many things in life (Adobe Photoshop, for instance) are already so complex that they require simplicity in order to propel the learner forward.
I have been running my own consulting and tutoring business since 2008. Aside from education, I specialize in both art and technology: videography, photography, computers, software, and web design. I have a MFA in Visual Art, and my BA is Visual Studies with a focus in Education. Helping others learn is my passion.
Diverse educational, biographic, geographic, ethnic backgrounds provide for a fertile learning experience. I place an emphasis on the process of mentoring so that each student will be able to explore his/her own interests and abilities. I am not satisfied unless I'm not only helping students to develop technical skills, but certain aptitudes -- such as discipline, autonomy, inventiveness, self-reliance, and self-efficacy.
I would appreciate the privilege of working with you, and am happy to answer any questions you may have! Please contact me today so we can begin working on what you need.

I’m very new to photography, so Jennifer walked me through various options that would be parallel to my interests. Also, she sprinkled in a few ideas that I would never have considered. She is cross functional in many digital areas which enabled me to think about integrating new marketing ideas where I am employed. An extremely informative hour!
Jennifer helped me with a formatting project on Microsoft Word. She is a highly skilled professional, attentive, responsive and she
has the skill of patience, without which none of the other skills would matter for someone nearly 81 years old. I hope to engage her for long-term benefit!
Jennifer is able to hone in on the aspects of where my son needs extra attention and is able to provide specific direction to help him work through such areas. He feels the sessions are extremely beneficial and is giving him the tools to gain confidence and success on the Verbal SAT.
I enjoyed my lessons very much. I felt very comfortable with the lesson pacing and came away with a good bit of understanding of photoshop. Jennifer is quite knowledgeable! I will be using her again for my instruction needs.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I was accepted to The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, where I specialized in Creative Writing for three years and graduated from their program. For me, writing has always been a strong interest and a natural strength.
When I work with a student to boost their writing skills, I focus on their process by exploring writing schemes they've developed over the course of their education. I try to discern if the gaps in their writing skills reflect concepts that need to be taught differently than they first experienced, or if they've simply learned to dislike writing.
I enjoy teaching to different learning styles, and have helped students prepare for various writing tests. I firmly believe that anyone can learn to write well.
