About Diane

Bio

I really enjoy helping students reach their goals. Your goal may be "getting" math. Or doing better on a hard test than you ever have before. Or improving your English.

Piano-playing is also a joy -- as much for you to learn as for me to teach.

Let me help you learn better by making the most of your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses. We set up a plan just for you. You can measure your success along the way. You may need to meet twice weekly, or only for a few...

Elementary (K-6th)

Hi, there! I love tutoring young learners in reading, writing, arithmetic and other subjects, including music. I'm certified in elementary math and science (and a whole bunch of other subjects) and have tutored and taught from elementary through graduate school. MORE DETAIL: I have tutored elementary students for many years, starting when I was in 7th grade. It's how I found out I was a good teacher! I especially enjoy teaching K-6 English reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics. When I became a classroom teacher, I taught middle school through high school (CT) and college through graduate school (CT, TX, VA, MD, WA, CA) in World History, Latin, Greek, Classics in Translation, Freshman Science, Mythology, Political Science, World Literature, English, English as a Second Language, and Philosophy. The breadth of my teaching reflects my interest in all the general education subjects first encountered in elementary school. Learning to love learning starts there! Happy new year! Diane

I enjoy helping students excel social studies--reading books with skill, getting a grip on the basic facts, and writing essays with facility. Tutoring gives you the advantage of building just the skills you need. Social studies has been a big part of my student and teaching careers, from high school through graduate students. I love it! (Cornell B.A. major was Political Science; U. of Chicago M.A., Ph.D. specialty area was social and political philosophy; and I've taught ancient through modern history and political science).

General Music

Hi, there! I love tutoring music -- have played and sung for over 40 years, and have tutored piano, flute, and sight singing. I play classical and popular piano, have accompanied instrumentalists and vocalists, and have sung in choirs and choruses--and still do! BTW, I'm certified in sight singing and piano. MORE DETAIL: I played flute in band and orchestra from gradeschool through highschool , getting top ratings in many contests (New York State--I was known as "the general" for all my medals ;-). Ditto for piano, but continued studying classical piano with prof at Uof Texas Austin in Rome, Italy, and in Seattle, WA (total about 20 years). Accompanied instrumentalists and vocalists (at Yale University; at St. John's College in Annapolis; and in several churches). Sang in Methodist choirs (MD, CA) and currently in Gold Coast Community Chorus (Ventura, CA). Happy new year! Diane

Great!

Unfortunately I was consumed with work to finish a practice test prior to my lesson, but Diane had a lessoned prepared.

Excellent tutor

I've taken my son, an incoming sophomore, to Diane. Diane really cares about her student. I can tell she thinks about how to help my son more by her well planned and individualized lesson for him. I really appreciate her spending extra time to email me feedback and details about his homework after each lesson. Thank you, Diane.

Great Piano Tutor!

Diane has been giving me weekly piano lessons at her home for a few months. I am 33 years old and I want to learn piano out of interest. I started as a complete beginner and she has been very patient with me. Her piano is nice and she helped me choose a good keyboard so I can practice at home. Diane focuses on proper technique and she is very good at showing what to do. Her rates are reasonable and I highly recommend Diane to anyone who wants to learn to play piano.

Great Tutor and very Patient

Diane is a highly intelligent tutor who is well versed in all subject areas. She is patient, calm, and thorough in her style of tutoring. Diane helped me with the reading and math sections of the CBEST, which I'm thrilled to say I passed both sections easily. In addition to tutoring on the subject matter, Diane also has many test taking strategies that she shares with her students , which no doubt, helped me to achieve a passing score on the CBEST. I highly recommend Diane to any age student that needs tutoring.

Great TEAS Test tutor!

Diane is a great tutor! She helped me in preparing for the TEAS test. She was so helpful with reading, math and especially grammar. Every lesson she was willing to explain concepts and was very patient with me. She taught me how to solve problems and how to think positively during a test! I highly recommend her as a tutor! With all of her help I was able to pass my TEAS test!

We keep going back to Diane!

Diane's an awesome tutor. My 15-year-old daughter (very soon to be 16) has a great rapport with her! We keep going back. Diane helped my daughter get an "A" in English last school year. We're now back in hopes that Diane will help my daughter with the Verbal and writing portion of the SAT! Very patient. My daughter likes that she can easily understand Diane's instructions/directions. She's very down-to-earth.
