In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I attended a private Christian college where I took a number of Bible courses. These included a classes on the Old and New Testaments and on Christian Tradition.
I have played the flute for 12 years, and for the last 6 of those I have privately instructed. In high school, I was first chair in the all-regional band and in college I was first chair of the school's concert band.
I attended a performing arts school in middle school and high school, during which time I took piano, choir, band, guitar, and theory. I was also a part of band during my four years of college and I have taught private flute lessons for the past 6 years.
I have had extensive experience editing peers' and professors' work.
I am currently a school psychologist. My most advanced degree is an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree, which is essentially a Master's Degree plus 30 units. I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.
I thoroughly enjoy public speaking. In middle school and high school, I was required to do 2-3 major presentations each year. The topics of these varied, but it was always a 10 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute question and answer period. In college, I took a communications course and got the first 100% on a speech that the professor had ever given. I have also presented my research topics at various seminars and workshops.
As a school psychologist, I work extensively to help students be more successful by teaching them organization and planning strategies. The interventions I have put into place have been successful in increasing school performance.
