About TD

Hello, my name is TD!

A dedicated and loving family man, and a true "Tech Geek" to my core.

I currently work a full-time 12+ year veteran Technical Support Advisor with Apple Inc, with over 17+ years overall professional IT experience in the Microsoft arena and 7+ years working as a professional network technician.

Which is why I've decided to join Wyzant as a computer tutor.

Working part-time as a Computer for the past 10+ years, I come with a big heart, great patience and a lot of passion for helping educate any users, who possess the desire to learn more about their computer and mobile products, yet at a pace that is both comfortable and fun for them at the same time.

For those of you who are seeking to enter the IT arena as a career or step up your current IT career in Networking, I'm also an experienced tutor specializing in the vendor-neutral CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ certifications

It is absolutely priceless to me, whenever I can share my time-honored IT knowledge and expertise with my students. I also tell each and every one of my students when they first start with me the same truth everytime: "If you don't succeed, I don't succeed and to me... that's just unacceptable." So I am committed to your success from start to finish.

So I am always enthusiastic to be present, whenever one of my students has their own personal "Aha I got it!" or "Oh wow, I understand now!" moments, during our tutoring sessions.

My speciality in my tutoring, comes from years of supporting consumer-based Mac products, from Mac Mini, iMac and Mac Pro computers; MacBook Pro and MacBook Air notebooks; the mobile iOS (iPhone operating system) devices like the highly popular iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch, iOS Apps, Apple TV, and of course the older Mac OS X and newer macOS operating systems and AirPort/ Time Capsule base stations.

As a cross-platform tech (Mac and Windows), I also work as an independent Professional IT Contractor, working on various Windows-based and Networking contracts for over 50 different companies, from large firms to big-box retail stores and restaurants. I even provide in-home and remote technical support to individual technology users like you!

Admittedly, my greatest passion is tutoring our beloved elderly students who love technology too.

In my past experience providing computer tutoring to my clients who are senior citizens, I have learned just how much they truly desire to learn more about the technology products and services they have access to, just like the rest of us. But don't get me wrong -- I do love providing technology tutoring to anyone who desires to learn more as well!

Finally, I am fortunate this far in my IT career to have literally helped thousands of IT customers in the US and in 12 countries worldwide, many of whom expressed great satisfaction in their reviews and surveys in my technical abilities, but also with my sincere efforts to educate, empower and enlighten them about their technology products, while resolving their technical issues.

Learning something new never gets old and learning what other considers old, is still a great opportunity for you to learn something new.

So always strive to keep an open mind, a willingness to learn --- and the rest will follow!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Computer

I have been providing retail consumer and enterprise level Helpdesk support for Windows operating systems and Microsoft-based software for over 17 years. Certified as a CompTIA A+ Technician, Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) in 2004, I also graduated that same year with my AS degree in Information Technology. Presently, I am now studying to complete my CompTIA training to earn a Cybersecurity Analyst (CSA+) certification by May 2018. My experience with Windows operating systems began in 1998, where I provided technical support for a large box retail store, CompUSA in Sacramento, California beginning with Windows 98, 98SE and eventually continuing my consumer support with Windows ME and Windows 2000, and Windows Vista.

Macintosh

I have been a tenured employee with Apple Inc., from September 26, 2005, to present, currently functioning in the role of Mac+ Technical Advisor with the AppleCare WorldWide Support group. I currently hold certifications as an Apple Certified Technician, Apple Certified Mac Associate, CompTIA A+ Technician, and direct Apple trained and certified as an iOS and CPU technical advisor.

My current Apple product knowledge and experience for the past 12 years including, but is not limited to: troubleshooting all Apple Desktop computers (Mac Mini, iMac and Mac Pro); Portables (MacBook 12", Macbook 13", MacBook Air 11" and 13" as and MacBook Pro 13" and 15"); iOS devices including the iPhone product line (4 up to iPhone 7/7Plus); the iPad product line (iPad WiFi up to iPad Pro 10.5 and 12.9" models); the iPod Touch product line (all versions); the Apple Watch product line (Watch Sport, Watch, Nike Watch and Watch Editions); the Apple TV product line (Generations 1 through 4); the Apple AirPort network product line (AirPort Express 802.11ac up to AirPort Extreme 802.11 dual-band AC and Time Capsule 3TB), Thunderbolt 27" Cinema (and earlier Apple LED models), all Apple legacy-vintage products (from 1997 to 2012) and much more.

I have been tutoring Mac users for over 10+ years on several online services such as SupportSpace.com, JustAnswer.com, and ExpertHelp.com. At Apple, I have tutored as a Peer Mentor Lead, Backfill Team Manager, and NAT (New Advisor Training) Developer. I have received three major Excellence Awards from Apple and nearly 500 positive customer reviews and interdepartmental positive reviews in my 12-year career with Apple Inc.

Lastly, I am also skilled in all Mac OS X and macOS versions (Mac OS X 10.1 up to macOS Sierra 10.12.5); iLife application (iMovie, Garageband,iPhoto); Photos application (all versions), all Apple iOS mobile apps, iCloud for Mac Os, iCloud for iOS and iCloud for Windows, iTunes application (all versions), Apple Music and a very large assortment of Apple-branded applications for both retail consumer use and internal Apple only use.

Microsoft Windows

I have been providing retail consumer and enterprise level Helpdesk support for Windows operating systems and Microsoft-based software for over 17 years.

Certified as a CompTIA A+ Technician, Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) in 2004, I also graduated that same year with my AS degree in Information Technology. In 2009 I certified as a BrainBench Helpdesk Technician specializing in Windows OS systems.

My experience with Windows operating systems began in 1998, where I provided technical support for a large box retail store, CompUSA in Sacramento, California beginning with Windows 98, 98SE and eventually continuing my consumer support with Windows ME and Windows 2000, and Windows Vista. My knowledge and skills with Windows OS continued with the release of Windows 7, 8 and presently Windows 10 from 2006 to present.

From 2007 to present, I have advanced my Windows ability to a higher level, working as a freelance IT Support Technician, providing online Windows training and support for three online Windows Helpdesk support companies. Currently, I provide Windows software, hardware and mobile application support services for a major IT contracting firm, presently completing over 100 major IT contracts for a number of large firms, big box retail stores, automotive dealerships and several restaurants,
where I installed and configured Windows-based POS (Point of Sale) systems.

Networking (Computer)

My experience, knowledge and hands-on expertise with the planning, installation configuration and troubleshooting of Ethernet and wireless networks has been an integral part of my IT career for over 18+ years.

I started as a freelance IT Network Technician however, in 1999, while working for CompUSA, troubleshooting Internet and network connectivity issues for residential consumers. I did not start supporting larger networks, however, until after I graduated with a AS in Information Technology from NTC (Northwestern Technical College), certified as CompTIA A+ , Certified Novell Administrator, and fully trained in MSA/MCSE full networking protocols and certification domains in 2004.

Despite not taking the certification exams for the MCSE and LSA (which were paid for already), I have since from 2005 to present day, been working for Apple Inc., and continuing to provide network troubleshooting as a Network & Low Voltage Technician installations and services for residential LAN as well as enterprise-based WAN and WLAN networks. I am skilled and experienced in performing: Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet data cabling, Wireless Fidelity (WiFI) network support; broadband coaxial cabling; wireless A/V multimedia network support; security camera (CCTV) network installation and troubleshooting, and troubleshooting and repairing telephony 66/110 block wiring services.

Due to an excellent technical networking portfolio, I'm presently contracted with over 50 client companies to date. In 2012, one of my company-clients, selected me to receive FBI-Homeland Security Clearance under their banner to support one of their largest federal clients, the General Services Administration (GSA), in order to have the security clearance required to provide network and server support and installation services to their offices in Greater Sacramento, California and the Bay Area. Incidentally, I've also been awarded free complete courseware to certify for the vendor-neutral CompTIA Net+ and Security + certifications for which I am currently working to complete. Finally, since March 2017, I'm still receiving more invitations from newer companies to contract with them, just from my CompTIA A+, Certified Novell Administrator, Apple certified MT and Mac Associates credentials, not to mention and a growing Network IT career portfolio. Although I have worked hard and am dedicated toward continuing a very good track record in this technology discipline, I have joined Wyzant, to tutor new and intermediate students on general Internet and WiFi troubleshooting in their own home networks, what network peripherals are and how to use them, standard network terminology (in accordance with 802.11 a,b,n and dual-band IEEE conventions), Bluetooth, VoIP setup and more.
