About Sara

As an experienced foreign language and English teacher, I know how to get students back on track in their studies for these courses. My style is strategic, observing student needs and course objectives in order to get the best results possible for students, even if there isn't tons of time to work! I customize our times together, making sure I leave students with study materials that will aid them even after our time together has ended.

I taught high school in the Paradise Valley Unified School District for several years, and I have eight years experience as a private tutor. I am an accredited teacher (in California and Arizona) with teaching experience in Phoenix, AZ. I completed my Bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a major in Modern Languages and Literature (Spanish and French literature and linguistics), and have completed Master's of Education coursework at UCLA.

I am passionate about teaching students strategies to reach their fullest academic potential. In my free time I enjoy hiking, reading, cooking, and spending time with my husband and children.

Qualifications:

I am a CA and AZ highly qualified teacher for secondary English. I have experience teaching English, tutoring writing and reading, and English as a second language. I write English curriculum with students' growth in mind, and am able to use this skill when tutoring students.

I am a CA and AZ highly qualified teacher for secondary Spanish. I worked as a full time high school Spanish teacher and developed curriculum. I have extensive experience tutoring Spanish as a second language. I design learning strategies specifically with the second language learner in mind.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I worked for three years in full time ministry, attended a private Christian high school and have taken classes through Biola's graduate school of Biblical studies.

English

I earned a single subject teaching credential from UCLA, and have experience teaching and designing English curriculum for grades 7-12. I have multiple years of experience teaching and tutoring high school students in Arizona.

Grammar

I earned a single subject CA teaching credential in English from UCLA. I taught many levels of grammar, from middle to high school. I designed curriculum from basic grammar to preparation for AP Exams. I also teach grammar in Spanish.

Spanish

I earned my bachelor's degree in Spanish and French literature at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I worked as a translator for groups in Central America. After earning my single subject California Teaching Credential in English from UCLA, I added on Spanish curriculum and bilingual education to my credential.
