I have been teaching elementary school for 11 years. I have experience teaching 2nd through 4th grade. I am ELD certified and have taught ELD 6 out of the 11 years I have taught. I am dedicated to making sure that each individual student receives the education they need. I do this by assessing, grouping and differentiating their learning.
I have a love for learning and value education. I enjoy working with children and guiding them in seeing their potential. I know that teaching students to be confident and value their learning is important for them to learn.
I have received high quality professional development to learn the new Mathematics Arizona College and Career Ready Standards. I plan and create lessons appropriate for my students level as well as teaching higher order thinking skills. It is important for the students to relate learning to their own life and know why they are learning the content.
I received a Master of Education with an emphasis in English as Second Language. I know many good teaching strategies and skills to implement not only the ELA Arizona College and Career Ready Standards but also the ELL standards. While using ELL strategies (which are good for all learners) I teach my students to read closely, fluently, comprehend the text and understanding tier 1, 2 and 3 vocabulary.
Learning to read and spell requires phonics skills. It is important to find out the missing skills that each student has to find the right lesson for that student. I do a phonics screener with my students and then have specific lessons and activities to make those skills automatic.
As you can see I have the knowledge to teach what is needed. I also have lots of fun activities and lessons to engage the students. I want them to enjoy learning and feel confident in every gain they make. All students can learn. I have been teaching elementary school for 11 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught 2nd grade for 8 years in a Reading First School. The Reading First model was set up to teach all aspects of reading. We assessed all students with a phonics screener and grouped them according to what phonics skills they were lacking. We also integrated phonics into reading and spelling.
