Martin Luther College (Elementary Education)
I've taught in large schools, and one-room schools. I have experience in all subject areas, since I have taught all grade levels from K-8. I've taught ESL classes in Japan and California. I have guided two schools being named Johns Hopkins Honor Schools when I was Principal/Teacher.
I enjoy working one-on-one with students; helping them achieve success in the learning process.
I taught English Grammar; with a strong emphasis on sentence diagramming and proper sentence and composition construction.
I had a multi-grade, multi-subject certification in California for Pre-K thru Adult Ed. I also worked one-on-one with parents of my students to help them prepare for their GED.
I've taught all subject matter to students in grade K to 8. At one time, I designed, developed and administered a nation-wide math competition that had over 1,200 students in 27 states participating each month.
Teaching as been my passion. While students were in my classroom their parents didn't find the need to have them receive outside help or tutoring. Feel free to contact me and schedule lessons. We went over Percentages, Rates, Ratios, Multiplying and dividing fractions, he explains everything so well and is super patient. He gave me some very useful tips that make things easier.
Basic math terms and steps. Adding subtracting multiplying division he will help me achieve my goals and pass my GED Math test hopefully within a few months. Very easy going
Mark has been tutoring Carla for more than 2 months. Carla has made an amazing improvement in Math. Mark is a very gifted teaching children. We don't think we will let him go so easy. He is very good teaching any subject. Carla has lots of fun learning Math, Science, Social Studies and Grammer with him. Thank you Mr Mark!
This is the best tutor experience my son has had. Mark communicates very well with my 4th grader and gives him crucial clues in resolving problems (math). Mark has made a positive impact in my son's improving grades throughout the first half of the school year and I will definitely reach out to him should my son need further tutoring going forward. Mark is a very good communicator and has massive experience teaching various grades.
Mark is an amazing tutor!!! My grandsons scores have gone up 25% since he has started the tutoring sessions.
Mark made math easy and fun to understand at a 5th grade level! My son enjoyed working with him. We are very happy we found him. A++
Mark seems to really care if my daughter understands the concepts he is teaching. My daughter enjoys learning through him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I coached basketball for 30 years. At the last school I coached at, I turned the program around from a team that averaged 8 points per game to one that averaged 43 points a game. I also refereed basketball in Wisconsin, California, and Arizona. Finally, I was one of the coaches that worked with kids in summer basketball camps.
I had Christian doctrine classes and several classes in Bible studies. I also had training in teaching religion. I was a foreign missionary for the Lutheran church in Japan. I've taught Adult Bible classes, confirmation classes, and Bible History in the classroom. I was also the youth leader in the church; that included having Bible studies at each youth meeting.
I have BS in Elementary Education. I have 30 years teaching experience teaching all grades from K to 8. I had a Multi-Grade, Multi-Subject Certificate in California that was good for Pre-K thru Adult Ed.
I taught math in a multi-grade classroom for 25 + years. One of my teaching methods was to have each student work at their own pace. In doing that, I had a one-on-one session with each student every day. I also formed a Elementary Math Competition that involved students in grades 4-5 competing each month. This competition was in 27 states and included over 1,200 students. I wrote the test each month and supplied the teachers with a solution sheet to share with their class once the test was given.
I taught English grammar to Jr. High students in Japan in ESL classes. I taught English grammar to doctors at a hospital in Japan. I taught English grammar to Spanish speaking adults in California in ESL classes. I taught English grammar in my Middle School classroom, emphasizing sentence diagramming.
I have experience in phonics from working with people is 3 different areas. 1) I had students in grades K-1-2 when I taught in a one-room school where I was the only teacher. 2) In Japan, I taught Jr. High students how to orally read English, teaching them the phonics rules. 3) In California, I taught ESL classes to Spanish-speaking adults. Now recently, I have been working with my 4-year-old granddaughter.
Prealgebra was one of my favorite classes to teach. I enjoyed working one-on-one with each child. I had students in prealgebra as early as 6th grade. Each student progressed at their own pace; therefore, I worked with the advanced students when they were ready for prealgebra.
I've worked one-on-one with students to help them develop their own study skills. I've helped fellow teachers prepare for certification tests. I've helped adults prepare for GED.
