Eastern Michigan University (Speech-Language Ther)
I am a Speech Therapist and Certified Personal Trainer who is passionate about teaching. With more than 10 years of teaching experience and five years of coaching experience, I find it very rewarding to see my students and players achieve a goal or master a skill they were seeking to improve. The look on a student's face when the light bulb goes off in his/her head and the, once confusing, concept finally makes sense, is priceless. The joy and excitement a player displays when he/she has successfully used a skill during a game or competition fuels my motivation and inspiration to help others.
I received my Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. My major was Speech-Language Impaired. During my college experience, I served as a private tutor and before-/after-school child care site director. I spent several summers as a camp counselor for students entering kindergarten and first grade. Regardless of the age group or setting, one thing was the same people of all ages were judged by how well or how poorly they navigated the English language. It pained me to see intelligent people overlooked because of poor use of grammar in their writing and speech. Yet, I was continuously inspired to continue pursuing my degree. My first position as a Speech therapist was in 2004, in the Ann Arbor School District. Since then, I have worked in both school-based and home-based settings, helping people from preschool age to adults. I truly enjoy seeing people's confidence build as they learn and use improved language skills. By using a variety of speaking and writing activities, I can help you express yourself more clearly!
Growing up, I played both basketball and volleyball. I remember the excitement of competing and the frustration of wanting to improve. When I began coaching in 2009, I saw some of these same things in my players. As, a coach I quickly realized that there is a lack of teaching of fundamental skills that are needed in every sport, as well as sport-specific. I recently earned my credentials as a Certified Personal Trainer, from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. This knowledge has enhanced my ability to provide training in speed, agility and overall fitness. As a result I am a coach who is motivated to help you get in shape and prepare to play your sport competitively. I seek to work with people who are motivated to challenge themselves to reach their goals. It is my desire to work with young athletes who desire to condition their bodies to compete at a high level and learn the skills needed to perform well in his/her sport.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
