About Jennifer

I am a solution based tutor. Some of you may be asking what is that?

It is my own theory that any child has the capacity to learn any subject or concept if they are encouraged and directed by someone who cares enough to teach them and hang in there with them as solutions are sought after and self-esteem is built. There is always a way to learn even if the student and I have to come up with unusual ideas that enable them to understand and comprehend concepts.

When I first went back to college after being out of school for 12 years, I felt the greatest fear I had ever felt at the thought of failing. I walked into that school with my head down and graduated with my head held high.

I believe I succeeded because of one incredible and dedicated professor that could see through a shy and incredibly insecure girl. A teacher that told me you can do anything you put your mind to and I will be here every morning at 7 o'clock to help you. I was there every morning and finished five semesters of chemistry. He gave me something no one else had ever given to me - his time.

I have read over 5,000 books and have completed over 300 credits in English. I have written my first children's book and will be writing a memoir over the next five years of my life. I believe that in the global society we live in today that not being able to write is the greatest hindrance to any path of success.

I also have a biology degree and love science. Biology means life and life is everywhere. It is the basis for our existence and the existence of all other living things from animals to plants. Biology teaches a student to think critically and allows the student to gain thinking skills that are not only used in a classroom but cross over into everyday life where we begin to ponder, invent and independently create and think for ourselves.

I have worked in the area of psychology for six years and have a vast knowledge in this field. I am well prepared to teach in all fields of psychology because of my extensive schooling and experiences.

My tutoring methods are simple. I am willing to teach you anything, to walk the distance with you as you learn and find infinite ways to help you understand but there is one catch - if you do not make the choice to learn, I cannot teach you. You may need me as a tutor to understand concepts but I need you as a student who has a desire to learn. I cannot bring you to the table but once you are there I can teach you anything. A tutor and a student enter into a partnership. A partnership that saved my life and gave me a life worth living.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
