About Danielle

I am an energetic and enthusiastic educator dedicated to making learning fun and relevant for your child. I have a Master's in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with endorsements in Elementary Reading and English as a Second Language. I currently hold a valid Arizona K-8 Standard Teaching Certificate, as well as a fingerprint clearance card. My bachelor's degree is in Spanish Theater and Literature. During my teaching career, I was known for bringing learning to life through the creation and implementation of creative, engaging, and highly interactive lessons.

I have three years' experience as an Academic Coach in an accredited early childhood program with only certified teachers. I spent 10 years as a lead teacher in 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, teaching a high population of at-risk readers. I was recognized for implementing highly effective instruction in Reading and Language Arts by consistently meeting a 90% success rate of exiting students from remedial to intermediate reading levels.

It is highly important to me to create an environment where the student feels safe, respected and comfortable to take risks. I do this by respecting and encouraging the student's perspective. Student talk should be equal to teacher talk. I use varying levels of questioning to see what a student knows and to encourage critical thinking. I speak in a way that will encourage students to listen and listen in a way to encourage them to speak. I offer correction in a positive manner that motivates and encourages. I am specific with my feedback and encouragement, so that the student is clear on what they are doing well and where they need to improve.

The most effective way to impact a student's learning is to first become familiar with their learning style and preferences. Based on this information, I then create lessons that will focus on the student's strengths. Lessons will be delivered through a variety of modalities based on learning style and preference; hands-on activities, songs and movement, visual aides, incorporation of technology and games. Learning should be interesting and dynamic. I, as the tutor, am constantly assessing to modify and adjust based on student need and/or progress.

I firmly believe that learning should be fun and presented in a non-threatening way for a child to flourish.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
