About Jeanni

Hi. I am Jeanni, someone who can DO as well as TEACH. Want help with math? English? As a private teacher for more than 20 years, I am qualified and experienced in multiple subjects. I promise to make learning fun. An all-around scholar (National Merit Scholarship), I was the #1 graduate in ENGLISH at my university of 24,000 students, then earned a fellowship in ECONOMICS for graduate work. I'll help you love language, and use English as an awesome tool to express your thoughts. (Don't have thoughts on the assigned topic yet? I can work with that too.) I'll help you make ALL your writing more interesting, plus clear, organized, and grammatically correct. I'm a published author of 4 books, plus an award-winning songwriter with 6 CDs. You see all those people on Facebook and Instagram looking ignorant every day because of grammar and spelling mistakes? Be the interesting and intelligent friend instead! I'll help you be a better writer right away by helping you organize your thoughts and then creatively choose your words. Your reports, essays, college applications, and school or job assignments will be engaging and polished. I'll help you prep for ACT and SAT exams. I will set specific goals with you, and ask for frequent feedback, to make sure you are learning and progressing.

I am qualified to tutor ELEMENTARY MATH. I love MATH because after all that nebulous writing stuff, you solve puzzles with short correct answers! I'll help you learn HOW to work on problems, and give you logical and creative ways to actually UNDERSTAND MATH.

I also love MUSIC and ART. When we work on ART HISTORY or MUSIC THEORY or COMPOSITION, I can share short experiences of my trips to Europe, singing on the streets of Paris for my rent, standing in awe in front of Monet and Leonardo's works. I can help you express your heart in music (melody, lyrics, and guitar or piano accompaniment), and create professional sheet music, plus your own recordings in my studio Sunrise Studio (ASCAP). I invite you to contact me. I'd love to make learning fun for you too!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I am qualified and approved to teach elementary and secondary math.

Bachelor's degree in English Lit (with honors)
Outstanding Graduate from the Dept of English, and also from the Honors Department

Piano

I began lessons at age 7 and have played and loved the piano all my life. I went on to study piano performance and music theory in college with Mary Ray Johnson. I also play the guitar, flute, and harmonica. I am an experienced songwriter, with five award-winning music CDs. I have taught piano lessons for more than 24 years.

Students play on my beautiful 6' Schimmel grand piano. Music games I have created: DomiNotes, Neighbor Notes, P-I-A-N-O (like Bingo), and more!

Lessons are weekly one-half hour (or 45 minutes advanced) of individualized private instruction. I teach playing techniques, expression, rhythms, theory, and notation. I include an enormous variety of music, from the classics to jazz to Disney to movie themes.

I have a reward system I call "Piano Points." I award piano points based on achievement: technical, expressive, theory, questions, and a 'challenge' bonus. Points can be saved or redeemed for treats, guitar or synth lesson, or music game time.

Twice each year students perform a concert. Recent recital themes have been Costume Concert, and the World Premiere of students’ original compositions.

Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend lessons occasionally.

Great to see my son smile. — My 8 year old son has struggled with reading. We have always read to him, and he likes to read, but he has fallen behind his classmates. After a couple of sessions with Jeanni, we already see a big difference. He is enthusiastic about their lessons, and just watching him from a distance I can see he is having fun. Last week he plowed through a complete chapter book, and he can't wait to get back t ...
