I have been a classroom teacher for 15 years and have a current multiple subject teaching credential in the state of California. Many of my high school and college student athletes often needed tutoring after school and so this is how it began for me. As I taught more at the middle school level in math and science, I found several methods to work particularly well in all subjects... positive reinforcement, carefully guided steps in solving equations, and links to practical use in the real world. I have a strong foundation in testing techniques. I also have mastered public speaking, writing, vocabulary with many students for presentation purposes. I will often give written feedback so that parents clearly understand the focus of each lesson and where emphasis may be necessary through test evaluations and analysis.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've worked at San Diego School of Baseball with Tony Gwynn (Hall of Fame), Tom House MLB pitching guru who worked with Nolan Ryan. I've done baseball instruction for over 20 years and studied Biomechanics at USC while coaching there 1984-1986 and SDSU in 1991-1992... I have been blessed to work with many of the greatest coaches in college and professional baseball today.
After training daily for professional baseball each day, I encountered many lessons in which I had to design strength training programs for hitters in college baseball at SDSU. I studied many professional body builder programs in athletes and professional body builders. Many theories varied in the past 40 years from Joe Weider to Arnold Schwazenegger. Taking these methods into consideration along with the body design desired by many professional athletes, I devised training methods that were conducive to both types of athletes and helped many college athletes become professional athletes while consulting with Dr. Girandola, head of the Exercise Physiology at USC (1984 - 1992). As a result we found many new training methods used my MLB players of today.
As a child I was a chess prodigy playing many students, winning several area and regional championships on Long Island. I was strong in attacking and relentless strategy. I studied Bobby Fisher for 2 years after watching is legendary match with Boris Spasky of Russia. As I got older I played many adults and even competed with 2 masters... tying one. After beginning teaching I taught hundreds of students chess classes in Math to understand strategy and chess notation. I did it on my over head projector and students really enjoyed it. Parent feedback was amazing. When the guidelines for curriculum changed in 1997 in California we had to stop. Since then I have played 153 matches and losing only one to a human. Computer chess has been more challenging than many of my opponents so I continue to play but it has changed the face of chess forever.
As a High School Baseball Coach of 20 years I have had numerous student/athletes who have come to me for help with College Preparation and Counseling for help in college preparation. I have helped over 100 students in this aspect. I have tutored them in College Prep testing, Financial Aid, and understanding what to expect upon entering college. These factors are the main focus of preparing for college but many don't lend focus to the social aspects, demographics, and how to succeed once they get there. This was another aspect of how I helped many succeed once they have attended college. All of these factors considered can make all the difference in graduating from a college or University levels. Of these 100 students more than 65% have gone on to graduate with a degree, which is far greater than the national average of 37% statistic taken from 2008 national polls statistics.
I taught in a variety of environments with students of all ages at John Adams Middle School, Hazeltine Elementary, through University of Phoenix (educating across the curriculum), Vista Heights Middle School, and National University in student teaching at the second grade level. I taught health science during my community service at USC in 1st through 6th grade classes. Then physical education, and science as part of the teaching in the community program at USC. Students were very receptive to my teaching style and always have been because I bring a different type of enthusiasm to students of the elementary level.
During the past 5 years of my DJ Business (BGME Enterprises) I have taken on many weddings. I researched many wedding videos that were done by companies in the Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Diego areas. I found them to be simple footage, simple pans, wipes, and poor titling. In videotaping many of my athletes, I found that presentation and cost of doing this was becoming easier each day. I adopted Magix Movie Maker as my multi camera system and was able to produce great motivational digital videos. Since then I have produced many wedding videos, sports videos, and studied film from a cinematography aspect. I have done 5 commercials, done broadcasting color in baseball, and now have several friends who are extremely wealthy from the film industry...
While playing baseball professionally, it was crucial that I gained a clear understanding of fitness training. Beginning slowly with proper stretching, a consistent continued regiment, building successfully, and keeping a well rounded development in training, were the four main factors in proper fitness training. These factors were crucial in avoiding injury, healthy cardiovascular development, and often sports specific training in attaining a fitness level goal. Many of my students were extremely successful in attaining their goals with these factors were taken seriously. I applied this in College and Professional athletes as well as during my employment as a fitness trainer with Family Fitness.
During my time teaching with John Adams Middle School I coached football. This was the first time many students had ever played organized football. My philosophy was that a good offense was a good defense. So we regimented out practices to focus on passing, receiving, and defensive receiving. We won two city championships in a row and had a roster of average kids. My trick was to teach my quarterbacks to throw on the run, keep my receivers in tight patterns, basic fundamental blocking, and proper technique in catching the ball. Two students later went on to college football and called me to let me know I had a strong impact on their ability to succeed. One went on the University of Hawaii and was only 5'6" as a backup quarterback.
As a teacher at John Adams Middle School I introduced the campus to a digital music program which was held after school. I have a vast background in DJ Productions from my business. I brought in a Casio Keyboard and used MIDI interface into a CPU system. We used my CUBASE software which I took courses in the San Fernando Valley, CA. This taught the fundamentals of recording music to a computer, sampling and audio sampling fundamentals, and lastly how to create a score on a music scale. With this, we created our own rhythm methods using recorded audio sound and beat mixing methods as well as "good message rap songs" DJ Scribble was one of our students and is now one of the Great Sampling artists heard today throughout the Rap Music industry and has worked with many famous artists like Snoop Dog.
Introductory Linear Algebra was a significant part of the curriculum standards in the state of California. During my time as a teacher there for 12 years, I taught, mentored teachers, was a lead teacher in fulfilling the curriculum standard. Later, I taught and tutored many students in beginning college algebra which also included a chapter on Linear Algebra and follow up in the chapter review as well as in the final exam. This can be diagrammed and taught with various medias to assist but I know the best to encourage and follow up with.
I had a DJ and Emcee business for 17 years which I became extremely proficient at. In understanding music history, it is crucial that all aspects of history are considered. I played and studied music from Classical, chamber music, Baroque International, to contemporary music played today. I became a sampling artist as well and utilized even crude forms of percussion instruments to contemporary forms used today in modern music.
My favorite methods are to combine crude or even rudimentary forms with contemporary forms in remix form. I often am at the cusp of artistry when combining language forms as well. This has been my mastery of this method training.
As a teacher in LAUSD and MVUSD I began two after school programs that were directly related to my experience as a disc jockey for 20 years. I started two after school programs that were both titled, "Digital Music Productions" where I taught how digital music and how to write and compose songs in a self contained music workstation studio. With today's advantages evolving in music digitally, I learned and taught CUBASE 5.0 software, implemented a music workstation with MIDI Interface, and included a BOSS Sampler to complete the music portion on CUBASE. We then added our own Audio inputs for vocals on line 8 of the GINA Sound Card into a computer with Windows 98. We focused on "good message Rap" where we designed our own remix songs from contemporary Rap songs and changed the lyrics to bring a better message to listeners. We eventually composed over 30 songs in one program and were heard on the top Rap/Hip Hop station Power 106 in Los Angeles with Big Boy! Students gained a tremendous amount and 2 students went on to produce their own music in the music industry with some very famous people after a simple music program at their Middle School Program at John Adams Middle School. I have since continued teaching these methods of cutting edge productions to over 150 students in the Los Angeles Area!
I was fortunate to work with a good friend in Networking office systems in the Los Angeles area. During that time, I worked with him in setting up office systems, running cable, and adding software to each system. We worked on 5 offices and gained a great amount of knowledge in understanding how this was done. After setting up these systems, we would service these systems by monitoring their internet connections as the network administrators.
As a teacher of 15 years in the classroom, I have worked with many "At Risk" students. The primary problem for students as these is that they are often disorganized and lack Study Skills to learn discipline in presenting their independence to learn. Through a previous tutoring program, I was a team leader and did extensive work with students in understanding methods in how to study, memorization techniques, test taking techniques and organizing their study time. We saw a minimum of 64% improvement in student success in Inner City Los Angeles over 6 years, and moved 60% of the students on to the next grade level of learning each semester. This surpassed the national average of 45% by almost 20%! Our range of students were from 11 to 16 years old during that time. I found that similar techniques work with College Students as well, and have also worked in tutoring college students for over 3 years now.
