I love teaching young children and will be delighted to have the opportunity to tutor your youngster! Most children have their own unique learning styles and can benefit from a creative, hands on approach. I've worked with and mentored young children for many years in schools, social service agencies and community centers. As a master's level social worker specializing in children and families and a tutor of elementary school age children for the past three years, part of my experience has been helping children who face special challenges, including ADHD and hearing loss. Mutual respect, patience, kindness, creativity, building on strengths and a solution oriented approach are hallmarks of my tutoring. Please contact me to discuss your child's interests and needs. Look forward to hearing from you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a master’s level social worker specializing in children and families, I have close to 18 years of experience working with children who have been diagnosed with ADHD and who have problems with attention, concentration and impulsivity. I have the patience and knowledge to motivate your child and gently guide him or her to focus on the work at hand. Games, art and manipulative materials are some techniques that I utilize to make learning exciting and fun. Because each child is unique, I’ll work with your child to discover the most effective approach that will lead to a successful outcome.
I will be very happy to work with deaf and hard of hearing children. When my daughter was diagnosed with a hearing loss some years ago, I learned how to communicate with her and used the John Tracy Clinic lessons as a guide. In addition, after she entered the Gompers Preschool for the Deaf, I volunteered there as a parent-aide. Teaching young children is my love. With a deaf child, I would utilize the kinesthetic and visual approach, with hands on materials such as making letters and words from cardboard or play dough, pictures to go with the words, and story boards. For math, we would use beads, blocks and other objects as adjunct materials that could be quantified, along with picture/sticker workbooks to make learning math fun. My goal is to help hard of hearing/deaf children to succeed in school and in life!
