About Bunny

I love teaching children and will be delighted to have the opportunity to tutor your youngster! My goal is to help your child gain confidence and mastery in reading, writing and math skills, which are basic to all learning.

As a licensed social worker, I worked with and mentored children for many years in schools, social service agencies and community centers. My experience with tutoring children in my children's and grandchildren's classrooms led me to focus on that after retirement from social work. Part of my experience as a tutor of elementary school age children for the past five years has been helping children who face special challenges. Most children have their own unique learning styles and can benefit from a creative, hands on approach.

As a parent, I understand how important it is to be a part of our children's learning experiences. You and I will be a team to help your child and I welcome your input. I'm easy to reach, by phone and text and respond quickly.

Patience, kindness, creativity, and teaching paths to success are hallmarks of my tutoring. Please contact me to discuss your child's interests and needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

As a master’s level social worker specializing in children and families, I have close to 18 years of experience working with children who have been diagnosed with ADHD and who have problems with attention, concentration and impulsivity. I have the patience and knowledge to motivate your child and gently guide him or her to focus on the work at hand. Games, art and manipulative materials are some techniques that I utilize to make learning exciting and fun. Because each child is unique, I’ll work with your child to discover the most effective approach that will lead to a successful outcome.

Hard Of Hearing

I will be very happy to work with deaf and hard of hearing children. When my daughter was diagnosed with a hearing loss some years ago, I learned how to communicate with her and used the John Tracy Clinic lessons as a guide. In addition, after she entered the Gompers Preschool for the Deaf, I volunteered there as a parent-aide. Teaching young children is my love. With a deaf child, I would utilize the kinesthetic and visual approach, with hands on materials such as making letters and words from cardboard or play dough, pictures to go with the words, and story boards. For math, we would use beads, blocks and other objects as adjunct materials that could be quantified, along with picture/sticker workbooks to make learning math fun. My goal is to help hard of hearing/deaf children to succeed in school and in life!

Reading

I have the patience and knowledge to motivate your child and gently guide him or her to focus on reading and reading comprehension. Interesting stories, art and word games are some techniques that I utilize to make learning exciting and fun. Because each child is unique, I’ll work with your child to discover the most effective approach that will lead to a successful outcome.
