Grand Canyon Universtiy
Are the new Common Core requirements confusing? Is your child struggling to understand or complete their work? My name is Melissa and I hope I am the right tutor for you or your child. I graduated with a dual major in Elementary Ed. and Special Ed. from Grand Canyon University. I am a creative teacher using "out-of-the-box" methods to help the student both learn and enjoy the process.
I currently work in the Paradise Valley Unified School District where I work individually and in small groups with students. I will be teaching 6th Grade Science and Social Studies next year at an excellent Charter School. I did my Elementary Ed. Student Teaching in a Paradise Valley Unified School District Elementary School Third Grade classroom. My Special Ed. Student Teaching was in the same school, in the Resource Room where I worked with students from Second to Sixth grades.
Prior to going back to school for my degree, I taught Preschool in a variety of both Faith Based and Secular Preschools around the valley, covering all ages from infants to Pre-Kindergarten. I have also been a Para-Educator in a Special Education Self-Contained School assisting in both Elementary and High School classes.
Above all, I am also a mom and understand how special each child is. Our children are gifts entrusted to us to prepare for the world. I treasure my relationships with my students of all ages. I have taught all ages of preschool from babies to pre-kindergarten, as well as tutoring students in elementary school.
I hope to hear from you! Hi everyone,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have successfully completed all the required courses to get my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Ed./Special Ed. from Grand Canyon University. I am currently in my last 3 weeks of student teaching prior to receiving my degree.
I have taught third grade in the regular ed. classroom and grades 2 through 6 in the Resource Room.
Additionally I have taught pre-k and kindergarten in a preschool/Early Education school.
During my years teaching Preschool phonics and phonemic awareness were one of the basics of any lesson plan. I have used several different teaching methods to teach students the building blocks of words. I have also taken classes in Reading Curriculum from Grand Canyon University. This class covered a section on phonics and how they relate to reading.
