Kay was an excellent tutor that worked with me and my present abilities. Her technique of tutoring really worked to my advantage because she set up my tutoring sessions just as if I was in the testing center needing to pass the present test. Kay was very understanding and has a broad understanding of each topic that I needed to master. She is very compassionate and empathetic to help assess your challenges. She is very hands on and is very energetic to teach and for the student to understand. Just as her profile states, her intelligence is remarkable. She finds many routes to teach the material if you do not understand the first time she presents the information. As a student that needs hands on teaching and an explanation more than once, her techniques worked wonders for me. With just three days of intensive tutoring I was able to pass my entrance exam with flying colors! Kay is an exceptional tutor!
Alyssa, you are an incredibly smart young woman who will be a great nurse in the near future. Best of luck in your nursing program! I distinctly remember my experience in the GCU nursing program, and I hope yours will be rewarding as well. I am glad we formed a great team. Excellent job on acing your entrance exam! You worked very hard. Thank you for being coachable, putting in your best effort, and also for being a great student to work with.
I highly recommend Kay! She was very helpful, patient and really listened to me as I described my struggles with one of my classes. She showed me a strategy to use during a particular test that I am having trouble with and reinforced that I really did know my stuff and that I could do this! Kay let me know that she was available anytime I had questions which is a huge help to me! Thank you so much!
Kay is a great tutor. A professional and great mentor! Kay is knowledgeable, patient, passionate about helping. She is very confident and easy to work with. The more information that we go over the more her experience becomes a huge plus with understanding simulation, labs, and real world experience applying the information.
Very patient and motivating, she listens to your questions and concerns and teach you from there. I was glad to have met her. She was very helpful to me in math
She was great ! Was patient & personable !:) She explained good testing strategies when taking a test and how to prepare for it . Was a session well worth it. Definitely would recommend !
I am so pleased to have found Kay! She helped me so much with my assignment. The past couple of weeks I have really been struggling in my quantitative business analysis class but this week the assignments dealt with regressions. I looked on the internet, read articles, read my text several times and the lectures and I felt like I was reading Greek. Kay was so patient and made me feel comfortable. She broke it down and explained what it was all about in simple understandable terms. After meeting with her I was able to come home complete my assignment and submit it on time. I also felt really confident with the work that I submitted. I am now waiting for my instructor to grade the assignment. Thank you Kay!
Kay has helped me through my HESI A2 preparations and chemistry class. She is VERY intelligent and knows her stuff!!! I highly recommend her for math, nursing school preparation and chemistry help.
Kay is fantastic. She is the best at what she does and is worth every dollar! I don't know know what I would have done without her. She completely turned my grade around. I highly recommend her. Thank you so much for everything! She is very fast to respond to any email request.
I had taken the teas twice and was having a difficult time passing it due to text anxiety and the amount of information covered. I met with Kay four times and she was so helpful in a very practical way. She knew about extra practice tests I could take and reviewed my wrong answers with me. I just passed with a 90%! Thank you Kay.
Kay is reliable and quick to respond. She is very knowledgeable and has a talent for settling down the stress making the topic clear and easier to understand.
Kay was prompt at returning my emails and texts and she was on-time for our tutor session. She helped me to understand how to answer NCLEX type questions. It really helped me and the following week I got an 88% on the exam. I highly recommend Kay as a tutor. She is patient and understanding and really cares about helping people. Thanks Kay!!!
No doubt Kay passed her own statistics courses but she is not able to answer questions, only go through the motions of formulas and even that she does with a bit of trial and error which is really really confusing for someone struggling with a subject. She was very accommodating with her schedule which I appreciated but I lost confidence in her ability to help me and she was not responsive to my individual needs as a learner. I felt more confused after listening to her than I had been before she arrived. Kay did not take time to assess my present level of understanding and walk *me* through *my* work, she simply did the work herself barking commands and coloring, which did not help me. When I asked her to let me try (as in me not sit and observe her rapidly doing work but she teach and guide me) she just sat back and did not guide me even when I was clearly stuck. My class requires the use of a TI86 calculator and Kay does not know how to use a statistical calculator. I felt like she considered me stupid or beneath her, she did not provide positive feedback. Her notes about the session and me were inaccurate and felt personal and degrading because of it.
I went to a different tutor after I stopped working with Kay and they understand the subject and can answer questions, don't need to trial and error and provide a lot of positive feedback throughout the sessions. I cannot overstate how much more productive those tutoring sessions are.
Kay is good at communicating with regard to her arrival times and scheduling.
My daughter needed a statistics tutor for her High School Final. We were happy with Kay. She was willing to help us
out at the last minute and travel to our study room destination although it might have been out of her way! I had made
arrangements with another tutor, but it fell through. Kay was knowledgeable about statistics which is not an easy subject to understand. She reviewed the contents with my daughter which was helpful! I would recommend Kay for any of
her subjects mentioned in her profile!
Thank you very much for your kind words Tami. Your daughter is a bright student and I am very glad to have had the opportunity to tutor her. She is coachable, ready to learn and open in allowing me to craft my teaching style(s) to fit best with her learning style(s). She was always prepared for our sessions. I wish her the very best in her studies!
Kay was an immense help to me through tutoring for two of my upper division statistics classes. Since I’m a Political Science major I had very little use for math, so I was intimidated to take these statistics courses, but Kay set my mind at ease. When we first met she was very familiar with my textbook, and was able to help me navigate through the dense material. I’m a visual learner so she could draw the diagrams in ways that were easy for me to understand, and when she explained the formulas she do so thoroughly so I could easily replicate them on my own. She was also always willing to make time for me and work extra hours on components of the class I wasn’t quite as confident in. I’m proud to say that I received an “A” in both classes and it is all thanks to her great tutoring strategies.
Jesse, you are a bright student! It was also a great experience for me tutoring you for your two statistic courses. I have no doubt that you will be successful in your studies. You were always well prepared for our sessions and open to learning about the different topics we covered. You worked hard for your grades! Congratulations!
Kay was very pleasant, professional, and accommodating. I was thrilled to have someone to share my assignments with and explain what I had done but I was very disappointed that Kay was not as well versed in statistical procedures nor SPSS as her profile had lead me to believe. I needed to know how to run a factorial ANOVA on SPSS and Kay did not know how to guide me or lead me on the exercise and her knowledge of power and effect sizes, while present, was not strong enough that she could teach with confidence. I would not be surprised if Kay is an AWESOME math teacher but her statistics are at the basic level at best. However, it is very expensive to pay someone to be a "study buddy," which is what our time together was.
Ronnie and I worked together for around four hours. She is a sociable and knowledgeable student. My role with her was quite different from my typical role as a tutor. I was more of someone who would check her assignments with her on various statistical procedures. From the beginning I mentioned to Ronnie that although I am familiar with SPSS and have worked with many students using SPSS in their statistics classes, I am not an expert in it. It was evident that our teaching and learning styles were not compatible. I wish her the best in her studies.
Kay was very informative regarding the material; she simplified statistics in a way that made it easier for me to understand, and I felt confident that she knew the subject well. This is my first experience with a tutor and I feel fortunate to have Kay.
Vincent, it has been a pleasure tutoring you. You are a hard worker and always prepared for your tutoring sessions. I am confident that you will do well in your doctoral program. You have some great questions about the different material we cover, which allows me to customize our session(s) to emphasize more on topics that require further clarification.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
