Zachary really cares that the parents and student are getting exactly what they need. I have two kids that tutor through him. They each have different needs. They both are at different academic levels. Both of my kids have autism, however, they are as different as day and night. Zachary is able to work with both of them with success. One of my kids has behavior problems. Zachary is able to refocus him and never seems to lose his patience with him. Zachary just tells me mom it is ok and a few minutes later my son is back to work. I have Zachary work with my kids on subjects that do not go over well if I sit down with them. He is able to do want I am not able to do. I do not have to fight with my kids to do their school work in their least favorite subjects. It is a win - win situation.
This was my kids (both have special needs) first session with Zachary. During the lesson, I could tell that this was going to be a good fit for my family's needs. Zachary cared about what I was telling him and want the long-term educational goals I would like to see my kids reach. I listen in on each of my kids as he tutor from time to time. Each of my kids were listening in and participating with him. I was particularly worried about my son and how he was going to do with the tutor. However, within a few minutes it seemed that Jacob had already developed a relationship with him. When he left my son wanted to know when he could come back. He told me that he had fun and wanted to work with him again tomorrow. He was upset when I told him that it was going to be a few days.
Zachary is concise, straightforward and brilliant in teaching and tutoring techniques. He's great with parents and students alike. In the very first session it was awesome to see so much work accomplished, and goals and ground work laid for success. Zac has been mentoring our son, an ASU student, to keep him on-track and focused on his school work. Zac has shown incredible patience as he guides our son into better study skills, organization, and planning. Our son was resistant to any sort of help, but is now learning that he can do well in college if he paces himself and meets smaller weekly goals. We live out of state, and Zac has been an invaluable resource for us. We have peace of mind knowing that Zac is keeping up on our son's progress.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to five years in a class room setting I have worked in a mentoring setting helping ADHD youth focus on positive behavioral choices and academic goals.
As a class room teacher with five years of experience I have worked with multiple levels of functionality. I have successfully motivated and engaged students to work to their full capacity and provided guidance and accommodation to facilitate success.
