About Rolando

Every student is different and has different needs. As a Math Professor at Mesa Community College, I am able to utilize several different methods to help any student learn the material.

Currently, I am pursuing my Doctorate in Philosophy of Math Education at ASU. I do my best to stay current with the best teaching and tutoring strategies and adapt as best I can to my student's needs.

I'm not a boring tutor, and I absolutely hate going ONLY by the book. I'll use real world examples and show you unique ways to remember any steps for any problems you are facing. You will learn the process of thinking, not just solving.

I have been tutoring for over eight years and have learned that one method never works for everyone. Each individual student learns different and it's my goal to help you find what works.

I am also bilingual since Spanish is my first language. I can read, speak and write in Spanish very well and that is another tool I have at my disposal if necessary for explaining any types of concepts.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Flash

Adobe Flash is one of the most powerful web application creators available. Through vector graphics, and smooth animations, sites can provide a great experience for their users. I have taken several workshops from Adobe to learn how to use the software and can share that information with others.

Algebra 2

As a Mathematics Teacher, I understand and can very easily explain all Algebra 2 material in many different ways to make sure the student understands the material, the theory and the thinking process behind the math. Transitioning into exponent work, complex numbers, log problems and other higher level thinking concepts requires careful planning and efficient work.

Calculus

Calculus is one of my specialties. I enjoyed it in High School and in College. It was actually the class that made me decide to become a teacher! I often work with Calculus AB students and college students taking Calculus I, II, III, Business Calculus, Multivariate and more. I do my best to make it fun and not as intimidating as the usual professor does. I can patiently explain problems in a way that any student will understand. Finding the way you learn is my goal.

Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is a great tool for editing just about all web languages. It allows for integration of multiple sever languages and database access for live testing of scripts. I like to use it for it's simple "notepad" like approach to code editing and it's extensive library of code hints. I have been using this software for well over 10 years before it was even part of Adobe's line up.

Elementary Math

As a High School Math teacher, I know what it takes to learn all the fundamentals. Basic math is the foundation necessary for later down the road. I can help any student understand and master Elementary math and prepare them for more advanced math later on in their school career.

General Computer

Computers have come a long way in the last few years and understanding them is key in order to use them to their potential. I can explain and help anyone understand what their computer can do so that they can get the most out of it.

Geometry

The change from Algebra concepts to Geometry concepts is difficult for some students. Geometry requires spacial reasoning which some students need time to develop. I am able to give students the tools and language development so they are able to excel in the class. Geometry requires a different language and being able to understand as well as speak that language is crucial to success in the class.

HTML

I've been writing HTML for over a decade. I know the syntax and can easily explain it a student. I know how to make all code comply with all browsers as well as the W3C Schools.

Microsoft Outlook

Outlook is a powerful E-Mail application part of the Microsoft Office software bundle. I have decades of experience with this software and have learned many shortcuts, many customizable features and can easily teach someone how to get the most out of this Operating System. I am also able to install and upgrade versions.

Many features of Word are hard to find, but once found, make the process of writing much easier.

PHP

I have been developing websites and databases using PHP and MySQL for several years. I can definitely help students develop their understanding of the language and make working applications on the web.

Physics

Physics is one of the sciences I enjoyed the most. It contains a lot of math theories and uses many equations to explain natural laws all around us. Understanding the math is not nearly as important as understanding the science behind it all.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is a key subject in moving on to more complicated math in Algebra, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. Understanding is key in continuing education.

Precalculus

Precalculus lays the foundations for upper math topics found in Calculus such as derivatives, limits, infinite series, integration and many more. Understanding Precalculus allows the student to have a great foundation for continuing in math.

Calculating probabilities can be a challenge. As a College Math professor, in which I spend an entire unit on probabilities, I can help any student learn to read problems and extract the required information to calculate the correct probabilities. I can also help them apply these concepts to real world applications.

SAT Math

SAT's require preparation and carefully developed study habits. As a math Professor, I am able to provide students with the most efficient study habits they can use in order to succeed in the SATs. Math SATs focus on mathematical patterns and logical step-by-step problem solving. With my many years of experience, I am able to guide students to find those patterns and work efficiently through problems.

Spanish

As a native Spanish speaker and certified teacher, I am able to help any student develop the cognitive skills required to master the language. Spanish language is quite different than English and students must develop a different way to construct sentences that make sense. So helpful!! — Rolando helped me to understand each problem by asking questions to see what I knew and then thoroughly explained the correct answer. What was extremely helpful about Rolando was that he asked me what my thought process was on a particular problem and then explained to me the areas where I was wrong. His schedule is VERY flexible and I had no issues arranging times to meet. I would definitely reco ...
