Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT math test is written at a high school level and is used for admission to many colleges and universities across the country. As a tutor I can help you practice for this test and explain logic in order to solve problems.

ACT Science

I have extensive science education with a B.S. in engineering. In addition, I worked in research developing products and have three U.S. patents and several publications. I have taught science in the classroom, online, and tutor in physics and chemistry.

Algebra 1

A firm foundation in introductory calculus is necessary to understand even higher level math. I can explain concepts to you and also show you using various resources on the web and using a calculator for completing problems.

I have a degree in Ceramic Engineering from The Ohio State University. Not only did I take courses in chemistry, but also crystal structures, thermodynamics, phase equilibria, processing, clay colloid science, and glass science. My professional experience involved chemical preparation and processing as well.

Elementary Math

I am certified in math including middle school and high school. I have tutored elementary math privately as well. With my advanced skills in math, I am able to teach students important concepts that will be crucial in later years.

Elementary Science

In addition to my high school certifications in math, physics, and chemistry, I have a state certification in middle-school science and completed my student teaching in middle school math and science!

Geometry has been around for thousands of years! Study of this subject in itself is a foundation for higher level courses including calculus. Students are introduced to proofs and logic at this level. With practice, a student can reason out a given situation.

Physical Science

Physical science covers several subject areas such as physics, chemistry, and earth and space science and is a survey level course to build on higher level courses.

For the last ten years, I have teaching experience in physics including classroom, online, and private tutoring. I have worked with high school through 100 level university students. In addition, I have completed several graduate courses in physics education. I will teach you how to setup and solve problems confidently and to have a deeper appreciation for the subject!

Prealgebra is a fundamental course to Algebra and includes topics such as prime factorization, fractions, exponents, and solving simple word problems.

Precalculus is the last course prior to taking calculus! Not only will I help you with doing problems on paper, but also I will show you some techniques using a graphing calculator to more fully master the material.

SAT Math

The SAT test is a national test used for admission to many colleges and universities across the country. The test is written at a high school level and you should be familiar with math up through geometry and data analysis. I can help you prepare for this exam by filling in any missing skills and explaining logic in an understandable way.

Knowledge of trigonometry is essential to progressing onto higher level topics such as calculus. A firm understanding in Algebra 2 is required in order to solve trigonometric equations. Topics include right triangle trigonometry, trig for any angle, and inverse trig functions.

I have been playing trumpet for nearly 48 years. My career included studying jazz under Bobby Alston, and completion of the Army School of Music. I retired from playing in various Army bands from a 20+ year career. My career included performances for President George W. Bush, The Prince of Saudi Arabia, and at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. In addition, I have played in various musicals, including the lead trumpet part for West Side Story. In teaching I have given lessons to several students in trumpet and emphasize proper breathing technique, reading, and interpretation to make the music come alive! I currently am playing with two musical groups.

Explained Subject Matter Clearly — Wayne helped my son with his Algebra 3-4 homework. He understood the subject matter and was able to explain it clearly. Wayne identified one of my son's weaknesses, that he is able to do the math in his head but doesn't show his work. Wayne went over how to show all of the steps of the solution, and how to write out the formulas, so that credit for homework and tests could be obtained. ...
