Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I majored in Elementary Education and received my BA in Education from the University of Arizona. I taught elementary school for nine years before becoming a Curriculum Director at an elementary school. During my first year of teaching, I taught reading intervention to students in need of remedial reading instruction (students who had fallen behind in reading and needed intervention to boost their skills). I then taught fourth grade and third grade in both mainstream and SEI (Structured English Immersion) classrooms. I am currently the Curriculum Director at an elementary school.

My teacher certification includes K-8; I also have a Structured English Immersion endorsement. I have a reading endorsement as well as a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in language and literacy. I teach college reading classes as well.

Elementary Math

I taught elementary school for nine years before moving into administration (Curriculum Director). I have years of training in math education at the elementary level. I have also tutored math for elementary students for many years.

Phonics

I have received years of training in phonics instruction both as a part of my university requirements and as a part of the professional development training I have received as a teacher. I currently teach phonics daily as a part of the reading curriculum I use in my third grade classroom. I also tutored and trained with a company that used phonics as the medium of its reading instruction to struggling readers. As I am soon to receive my reading endorsement, I have very up-to-date techniques and training in phonics instruction.

Reading

Along with being an elementary teacher for nine years, I am reading specialist endorsed. I also have a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Language and Literacy. I teach reading classes to college students, and I have been a reading tutor for many years.

Writing

I am a published writer. I love writing, and I love to guide others into loving writing as well! In my years as an elementary teacher, I taught my students to foster a love and proficiency for writing. I also work with my college students to increase their writing abilities.

Excellent, Kind, Patient!

I am confident that we have found the right tutor for my daughter! Victoria is patient and encouraging. She absolutely knows what she is doing academically to help my daughter learn, grow and become a more confident student. As a secondary educator for the past 20 years, I can spot an excellent teacher...and Victoria is exceptionally excellent!!
