I'm a mom with 3 bilingual kids- ages 31, 29, and 27. Currently, I'm working as a personal chef for a firm in Scottsdale. I also am a French/ Italian interpreter I was substitute teaching for more than 6 years, and think that I added new meaning to everybody's idea of subs, because I care! No matter what the assignment, I tried to get the kids to take away something they didn't know. Did you know that spaghetti and meatballs is NOT Italian? I'm a mom with 3 bilingual kids- ages 31, 29, and 27. Currently, I'm working as a personal chef for a firm in Scottsdale. I also am a French/ Italian interpreter I was substitute teaching for more than 6 years, and think that I added new meaning to everybody's idea of subs, because I care! No matter what the assignment, I tried to get the kids to take away something they didn't know. Did you know that spaghetti and meatballs is NOT Italian? Spaghetti is; meatballs are, but they do NOT put meatballs on their spaghetti. I try to add my lifetime experiences living 3 years in Paris and 24 years in Rome (with 15 summers in England) to make the subject come alive and therefore be more memorable. For example: for a 6th grade class studying Ancient Rome, besides telling unique kid oriented stories, I brought in an unusual shard of Etruscan pottery to pass around. Have you ever actually gotten to touch something 2500 years old? For an 8th grade class studying WWI, I was able to tell an incredible coincidence of a true story about a young Italian soldier and a German field surgeon spanning both world wars. I have all kinds of ideas and tricks to help you remember what you're studying in a fun and easy way.
My teaching style is easygoing, but serious. I want to help you remember the subject, but also understand it, so that it sticks once the exam is over. I have a B.A. and teaching certificate in French (with an excellent accent for an American) and Spanish (which is okay, but compromised, thanks to my fluent Italian). I did post grad at the Sorbonne, American Univ. of Rome, and got a 4.0 in US/AZ Constitution and SEI-Strategies for English Immersion. I completed Berlitz teacher training in English, French, Italian, and Spanish in 2008. I've subbed many ESL classes, and feel particularly close to kids, like mine, trying to assimilate into life in the U.S. I've been a lifelong reader and traveler, so languages, history (U.S., European, and Art), geography, literature, reading, and writing are my strong points. I work well with elementary kids and try to make their subjects fun. For example: Reading comes along with silly sounds or actions to help remember vocabulary).
I also have my teaching certificate from L'Ecole Cordon Bleu in Paris. Besides French, I do teach all kinds of cuisines; American, Greek, Spanish, North African, Mexican, Chinese, and Thai. Of course after 24 years in Rome, Italian is my favorite. Most of the time, you do not need a recipe! Most Italian cookbooks in Italy don't have measurements next to the ingredients! I could teach cooking classes in your home or mine to small groups or singles.
I am very flexible and patient ! look forward to working with you!

Wonderful private tutor
My 15 year old son plans to spend next summer in Paris and found Sherry on Wyzant. We are so lucky to have found such a great tutor. She listened to what his goals are and what he wants to accomplish and put together a plan that is working for him. Sherry lived in France for many years and is also a great resource in understanding local Parisian customs and life, all of which will be useful for a summer abroad. My son is very excited about his lessons and so am I! Highly recommended.Brenda, 48 lessons with Sherry
Fun and challenging.
Sherry is a great tutor. Although the grammar side of Italian is a bit hard to understand, Sherry is very patient with our usual list of questions. And we love the tidy little tips and customs that we would never get to hear from a different style. We are having a blast and look forward each week.Patricia, 11 lessons with Sherry
Creative and Consistent
Sherry never ceases to amaze me-- always coming up with new and creative ways to not only improve the student's English skills, but also to expand his general knowledge. She keeps him interested and engaged. So appreciate the work she does.Tracey, 28 lessons with Sherry

WONDERFUL TUTOR EXTREMELY PATIENT AND KNOWLEDGABLE
This tutoring experience has been above and beyond. Not only did I get to meet a great lady, but a very skilled teacher with amazing amounts of knowledge of languages. She was very patient with me and walked me through many different phrases I would need on our upcoming trip. When I struggled with the grammar side of learning, she pulled back and allowed me to go at my own pace, while I was still able to gain knowledge in this area. Not only was Sherry an outstanding tutor, she went above and beyond in helping us with bookings, cultural tips and many other extremely helpful ideas. Thank you Sherry for everything.
