My name is Chris, and I recently graduated from Azusa Pacific University with BS degrees in Math and Physics. Since I started school, I have been interested in tutoring, in large part because I have seen how much students have benefited from the various tutoring programs offered at my school. I started tutoring math and physics during my sophomore year, and fell in love with it. Since then I have worked with various tutoring programs at my school for two years, and I have private tutored online and in person through Wyzant for the last year.

My greatest joy in tutoring is when the student gets to the point where they understand the concept behind a certain problem. Once a conceptual level of understanding is achieved, the tutor's work is done, because the student is now able to apply those concepts to other problems. As such, my goal in tutoring is not simply to provide the student the correct answer to a particular problem, but rather help them understand the problem on a conceptual level.

During my sophomore year in college, I had the opportunity to tutor math and physics as a student tutor. The Department of Math and Physics at my school hired to me work as a physics tutor in their Math Center. As part of this job, I tutored lower division physics for 4-6 hours a week in a group environment throughout the academic year. I also worked for another department as a math tutor, handling individual appointments that were scheduled in advance by the student. I tutored math subjects ranging from Elementary Algebra to Calculus 2. I have worked both of these jobs for the last two years. In January 2017, I started tutoring online through Chegg, and the following March I got started with Wyzant. Between these and various other tutoring jobs, I have tutored students privately for over 250 hours in a wide range of math and physics subjects over the past year. In addition to my tutoring experience, I have graded for lower division physics (once) and Discrete Math & Proof (twice), and handled occasional one-time t

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Since I took Algebra 1 and 2 in High School, I have completed the entire Calculus series as a college student with straight A's, and have done well in many other higher math classes and physics classes that made use of calculus. I am passionate about Algebra because my ability to do well in those classes was based on my firm understanding of Algebra concepts. Algebra is one of my favorite subjects to tutor, and I have over a year's experience helping students understand these critical concepts.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Since I took Algebra 1 and 2 in High School, I have completed the entire Calculus series as a college student with straight A's, and have done well in many other higher math classes and physics classes that made use of calculus. I am passionate about Algebra because my ability to do well in those classes was based on my firm understanding of Algebra concepts. Algebra is one of my favorite subjects to tutor, and I have over a year's experience helping students understand these critical concepts.
Calculus

Calculus

In high school, I took AP Calculus AB and received a 5 on the exam. Since then, I have completed the Calculus series at my school with straight A's, and have done well in a number of other classes (including upper division physics courses) that made use of calculus consistently. I am passionate about calculus because of it's incredible usefulness in a multitude of situations. I have experience tutoring calculus, and I greatly enjoy helping students with this subject.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I took Differential Equations during my second semester as a freshman in college (2 years ago) and did very well in the class. Since then, I have taking multiple upper division physics courses that used material from differential equations, and I have even worked with differential equations in research. During the class, I helped many of my classmates with difficult problems, and since then I have helped many others at my school with the subject, and even tutored it a few times as an online tutor. I enjoy the subject tremendously, and I enjoy helping other students do well in it.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have been the student grader for Discrete Math & Proof at my school for the past two semesters, and I received an A in the course when I took it two years ago. I have since taken Abstract Algebra and Real Analysis, and done well in both courses. I have helped a number of my peers with discrete math, and have been able to help them do better on their assignments as a result. Because of this experience, I believe I am thoroughly qualified to tutor the subject.
Physics

Physics

I am currently majoring in physics and math, and I have nearly completed all the classes for my physics major, with straight A's so far. I have tutored physics individually and in group sessions for the past year, and I am passionate about this subject. My favorite areas of physics to tutor are mechanics and electrostatics.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have completed the Calculus series at my school with straight A's, and done well in many other classes that made significant use of calculus. Throughout all these classes, my high-school foundation in Pre-Calculus and Algebra has served as the foundation on which my understanding of higher math has been built. As such, I am very passionate about ensuring that students have a solid education in these subjects, which is one reason I enjoy tutoring them. I have tutored Pre-Calculus and Algebra for over a year, and they are definitely my favorite subjects to tutor.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have been tutoring all levels of high school math for over a year, so I am experienced at tutoring any of the subject matter on the SAT math section. My score on the SAT math section was 740, and my score on the PSAT math section was 68. I have a number of SAT prep resources that I kept after using them myself that can serve as helpful resources for students I work with.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of my favorite subjects to tutor, largely because of it's applications in physics. As such, trig is probably the subject with which I have the most tutoring experience, and it is one of my favorite math subjects. I am intimately familiar with the subject, and over time I have developed effective strategies for explaining the concepts to students.

Christopher is amazing!

At the end of the first trimester, we realized that our son had fallen way behind in calculus. He had kept this from us and not asked anyone for help. He decided that the easiest thing to do would be to drop out of AP calculus. But his advisor said the only other math he could switch into was the same hour as his varsity choir. Not going to happen, so he decided he needed to learn three months of calculus instantly and keep up for the rest of the year. I had never even heard of Wyzant or online tutoring, but a quick internet search brought us to Christopher. And calculus was never a problem again. He got up to speed right away and kept up with his class and was confident in taking the AP test. Christopher was super responsive and flexible and always made time to have a tutoring session with our son before a test, even with short notice. When I asked our son what he would write in a review about Christopher, he said, "Literally the best. 10 out of 10. Dope and cool."

Great tutor!

Chris is a really great tutor! He explains everything so clearly and I have been able to understand everything. Calculus is not my strength and I often leave class confused but meeting with Chris has truly helped me comprehend the material and feel more confident in taking my exams. He is so patient and I can't recommend him enough!

Makes learning easy

My son is having a Physics test in 2 days, and Chris spent two hours with my son teaching him patiently. When they were done, my son feels more confident about the upcoming test. I will most likely call on Chris again to help him with semester finals and whenever my son needs help in preparing for chapter tests.
