My love of teaching is actually an extension of my love of people. My major course of study in college was Social Science which has given me great insight into how different cultures and nationalities learn.
I was born and raised in Sweden and speak 4 languages, German, French, Swedish and English. I have an extensive understanding of language and vocabulary. I have taught in a classroom setting teaching Swedish to immigrants coming from many different cultures and nationalities. I have taught in a classroom setting teaching computers, Swedish and special education for students here in the U.S. who came from broken homes.
I moved to the U.S. in 2004 and became a citizen. All three of my children were home schooled and I tutored them in all subjects of their education. The individual aspect of tutoring is very rewarding and gives me the extra ability to give my students the time and attention they need to succeed in a society which demands productivity.
I am available for tutoring Mon-Fri from 8:30am to 6:00pm. The only exception being Tuesdays which would be from 8:30am to 5:00pm. My base rate is $65/hour for in-person lessons and $45/hour for online lessons.
I have studied German for 8 years and French for 7 years. I have worked in the tourism industry for several years where I communicated daily with German and French speaking persons in their own language.
Sweden is known for excellent education and a people who learn several languages in school. I started studying English at age 9. English was also part of the language skills set I used in the tourism industry. I am fluent in American English. I have practised Public Speaking weekly during the last 20 years. With my extensive knowledge of the American English language I can help your child with his/her reading and vocabulary issues.
With my extensive experience in learning new languages I understand the issues that can arise such as frustration with building sentences and grammar. With my experience teaching refugees I have the empathy, understanding and patience needed. With my experience as a public speaker I understand the stress and nervousness that can come with not just getting up in front of larger groups of people, but also where the focus needs to be during your presentation and how to make the information come alive. My love of teaching is actually an extension of my love of people. My major course of study in college was Social Science which has given me great insight into how different cultures and nationalities learn.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
