Hello Future Students,
My name is Dawn R. and I am a passionate and devoted teacher of special needs. I have over 25 years experience working with children with unique learning styles. I have worked in both the public and private sector and continue to advocate for all learners. Specifically, I taught for 10 years in a junior high resource classroom assisting students with learning and behavioral issues how to be successful, independent students.
My students have always told me that I have an understanding of how to communicate effectively with them. They know I care and can empathize with them while maintaining high expectations for positive outcomes. I have the unique ability to make kids "get it", even though the concepts are often so abstract in math. I have successfully taught children with reading disabilities to both read and write.
I am able to relate easily and positively to children on the autism spectrum, specifically high functioning or Aspergers. My greatest success stories are with children and families who struggle in this area, along with those who have ADD/ADHD. Learning can be so much easier when strategies are taught as we all know success breeds success!
Please contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to brightening your future. Hello Future Students,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelors degree in special education and am certified as cross categorical (mild/moderate) including students with ADHD. I have ten years teaching experience in the classroom with this population. This condition often exists along with other learning disabilities, diagnosed or otherwise, and takes consistency and patience, which are characteristics I possess as well.
I have successfully taught students with learning disabilities in math to achieve success in algebra 1.
I currently hold elementary education certification with emphasis in special education (learning disabilities) and 10 years classroom experience.
I have taught students of all ages with varying disabilities in reading. I am trained and skilled in multimodal approaches to teaching phonics. I hold K-12 certification in special education with an emphasis in learning disabilities.
I have taught many struggling and non-readers to not only experience success, but also to learn to love reading.
I have taught junior high school aged students in resource classes supporting all subjects. In my teaching career, I successfully assisted students in passing district, state and standardized assessments. I hold k-12 certification with an emphasis in learning disabilities.
